How to Get Cloud Steps in Where Winds Meet

Cloud Steps is one of the early abilities you will unlock in Where Winds Meet. It is used for both movement and combat. Cloud Steps abilities help you jump to hard-to-reach places and let you slam down on enemies and break their balance. This guide will walk you through where to find the Cloud Steps ability and how to unlock it.

How to Get Cloud Steps

The Cloud Steps ability will be unlocked during the Echoes in the Shrine quest. While the tutorial is guiding you to the General’s Shrine, try to find the little dungeon that is hidden beneath the shrine. To access it, go to the location of the child and the dog, jump up and slam down on the wooden boards beneath them. This will break the floor and open the entrance.

Once you’re inside, start making your way through the dungeon. Use your fire arrows to burn away any branches blocking your path. Keep going until you reach a long staircase leading downward. At the bottom, you will spot a corpse sitting against the wall. By interacting with the corpse, you will receive the Cloud Steps skill as a reward.

Cloud Steps act differently depending on whether you’re in a battle or just travelling around. When there’s no combat, it allows you to perform a high jump and slam down, or even hold your breath to jump to special marked spots. It’s a tool of mobility that lets you go to areas that are otherwise hard to get to.

In the middle of battle, Cloud Steps deal damage to enemies. You have the option to jump directly to an enemy dealing damage, which is very effective against horseback riders or enemies who easily lose their balance. This is a good way to close the distance quickly between the enemies, interrupt horse riders, and even break their stance before they have time. You will also need it for certain movement-based puzzles and quests.

Regarding their upgrades, Tier 2 increases the additional damage you deal when the enemy’s weak point breaks. Tier 3 allows the attacked enemy to lose even more HP for ten seconds after their weak point has been broken, thus letting you follow up with heavy hits. Then Tier 4 gives you an even greater increase in damage.
