If you’re diving into RuneScape: Dragon Wilds, one of the first things you’ll learn is that survival depends more. Resources matterand charcoal quickly becomes one of the important items of your journey. Whether you’re trying to cook faster, craft potions, or power up your crafting setup, charcoal plays a bigger role. In this guide, we’ll walk you through exactly how to get charcoal, what you’ll need to make it, and how to put it to good use once you’ve got it.
How to Get Charcoal
Charcoal might seem like a small thing, but in RuneScape: Dragon Wilds, it plays a big role in your survival and crafting journey. Whether you’re trying to cook faster, craft potions, or fuel your campfire efficiently, charcoal is one of those essential resources you’ll want a steady supply of. So let’s break down exactly how to get it and what you’ll need along the way.
Step 1: Gather Wood
Before anything else, you’ll need wood any kind will do. Chop down some nearby trees to get started. This will be your base material for charcoal.
Step 2: Unlock the Kiln
To make charcoal, you need a kiln, and unlocking it isn’t something you can do right from the start. First, you’ll have to gather clay, which is found in the Whispering Swamp. Bring a torch, it gets foggy and hard to see in there.
While you’re in the swamp, also keep an eye out for Bittercap Mushrooms they’re useful for both cooking and potion-making later on.
Once you’ve collected enough clay, you’ll get a notification that new crafting options (like the kiln) are now available.
Step 3: Build the Kiln
To actually build the kiln, you’ll need a few extra materials, including fire runes. You can find fire runes in chests or craft them at a rune altar. Bonus: they’re also great for combat because they add a burning effect to your attacks.
Once you’ve got everything, place your kiln outside it won’t work inside your shelter. Find a good open spot and set it up.
Step 4: Make Charcoal
With your kiln in place, just load it up with wood, and you’re making charcoal. It’s way more efficient than using plain wood, especially when you’re cooking up several meals in a row.
How to Use Charcoal
Charcoal isn’t just for cooking. It’s also used in potion brewing and some crafting recipes. For example, if you build a brewing cauldron (which needs coarse thread, logs, clay, and rune essence), you can use charcoal as fuel for your potions. One of the early potions you’ll probably make is an anti-poison potion super useful when exploring swampy areas full of nasty surprises.
