Armor Spheres are the lifeblood of defensive development in the Monster Hunter universe, and Monster Hunter Wilds is no different. They enable hunters to strengthen their armor, filling them with vitality to become less vulnerable targets and more imposing bulwarks against the vicious monsters that stalk the wilds. This guide will explore the different ways of obtaining and using Armor Spheres in MH Wilds, from quest rewards and trading to the new smelting system, so you’re always ready to take on whatever lies ahead.
Armor Spheres in MH Wilds
Armor Spheres are used to boost your armor’s defense, but how much they add depends on the type of sphere. Basic Armor Spheres give a smaller boost, while the more advanced ones provide a bigger upgrade. It’s a good idea to use the basic ones on your low-rank gear without worrying too much!
Once you have enough Armor Spheres, head to Gemma in Monster Hunter Wilds and open the Forge/Upgrade Armor menu. Pick the piece of gear you want to upgrade, then go to the Upgrade/Forge submenu. From there, select Upgrade you’ll see a list of all the Armor Spheres you own. Just choose the ones you want to use to boost your armor’s defense. Remember, the better the armor, the more points it takes to level up. It’s a good idea to save your high-quality Armor Spheres for your best gear!
How to Get Armor Spheres
In Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll pick up armor spheres mainly by completing main story missions. You can also earn them from optional quests, those one-off monster hunts you get from Alma. Starting with the two-star quest “March of the Kranodath,” every optional quest after will reward you with one or two armor spheres.
Another way to get them is through trading with Gawdygog at the Wudwud Hideout in the Scarlet Forest. Later in the game, you’ll unlock the smelting foundry in Azuz, where you can convert monster parts into armor spheres.
You’ll get your first armor spheres during Chapter 2-1, “Toward Fervent Fields,” when you go looking for Maki. That’s the main story mission where you hunt your first Rompopolo not long after reaching Azuz. After the hunt, Gemma will call you over to the smithy and explain how to use armor spheres to upgrade your gear.
Smelting Armor Spheres
To smelt Armor Spheres in Monster Hunter Wilds, you first need to defeat Black Flame as part of the campaign. Once that’s done, head to the Everforge in the Oilwell Basin region. Here’s how to smelt Armor Spheres:
- Talk to Roqul and choose the Smelt Armor Spheres option.
- Select the type of Armor Sphere you want.
- Use spare monster parts until you have enough to craft one.
If smelting isn’t your thing, you can also trade for Armor Spheres with certain vendors. One option is Gawdygog in the Scarlet Forest, they’ll sell you Armor Spheres in exchange for Ancient Wyvern Coins.
