In Expedition 33, Esquie is a key part of your journey, unlocking new ways to explore the world. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to unlock all three of Esquie’s exploration abilities: Swimming, Flying, and Diving.
How to get all Esquie Abilities (Swimming, Flying & Diving)
Esquie is a loyal companion who joins you on your journey across the continent. You’ll first meet him in his home, Esquie’s Nest, but he won’t join your party right away. To get there, you’ll need to progress through the main story until you’ve completed the Ancient Sanctuary and reached the Hidden Gestral Village. After taking part in the tournament, you’ll receive a password that lets you enter Esquie’s Nest.
Once inside, Esquie gives you a small task. Finish it, and he’ll become part of Expedition 33. From that point on, Esquie travels with you and gains new abilities as you move through the story.
Esquie’s powers are connected to special rocks, but he doesn’t have them. By finding and returning his lost rocks, you’ll help unlock even more of his abilities, making him an even more valuable part of your team.
How to get Esquie’s Swimming Ability
To reach the Monolith and face the Paintress, you’ll need to cross the second ocean with the help of Esquie. But first, he needs your help finding Florrie. You’ll get Florrie by defeating the final boss at Stone Wave Cliffs and continuing through the main story. Once you have it, Esquie gains the ability to swim, letting you travel across the ocean.
As you explore, you’ll run into coral reefs that block certain paths. To break through them, Esquie needs the Swim Through Coral Reefs ability. You can unlock this by completing the Old Lumiere storyline. With that, you’ll be able to access even more areas across the ocean.
How to get Esquie’s Flying Ability
After you complete the events at The Monolith and defeat the Paintress, Esquie unlocks a new ability of flying. With this, you’ll be able to reach new areas that were previously out of reach, like the Flying Manor.
How to get Esquie’s Diving Ability
Esquie gains the ability to dive underwater once you get Urrie, but to get it, you’ll need to raise your bond with Esquie from level 5 to level 6. When you reach Act 3, talk to him at camp to start a quest that involves defeating Francois. Finish that quest, and Esquie will be able to dive, letting you explore deeper underwater areas.
