If you’ve been diving deep into Runescape: Dragonwilds, you’re going to want the best staves the game has to offer. Whether you’re just starting out with basic materials or hunting down rare components in deadly dungeons, getting all six mage staves is a long journey. Each staff comes with its own power, perks and this guide breaks down exactly how to craft or collect every single one.
How to Get All 6 Mage Staff
There are six in total, each with its own bonuses and materials. So, whether you’re crafting or looting, here’s everything you need to know about finding (or making) every magic staff in the game
1. Ash Battle Staff
- Damage: 1.9 Rune Damage | 4 Attack Combo
This is your starter staff, and you’ll need to craft it. Grab: - Coarse Thread x 2
- Rune Essence x 6
- Ash Logs x 12
To craft it, you’ll also need a Smithing Anvil, which requires Bronze. That means you need to head to the swamp for tin and copper, then smelting them. You’ll also have to start exploring dungeons to find Vault Cores you’ll need those for most higher-tier gear.
2. Oak Battle Staff
- Damage: 2.8 Rune Damage | 4 Attack Combo
This one you can craft with: - Oak Logs x 12
- Anima-Infused Bark x 6
- Wool Thread x 3
For wool, you need to hunt sheep in the Fractured Plains and run it through a spinner. The Anima Bark comes from the Fractured Plains.
3. Grieving Moon Staff
- Damage: 2.6 Rune Damage | 4 Attack Combo
This one’s a random drop, mostly from killing druids(marked on the map above) in the Fractured Plains.
Crafting it takes:
- Oak Logs x 8
- Antlers x 6
- Bones x 2
You can easily gather these items while you’re defeating mobs in the area.
4. Blightwood Battle Staff
- Damage: 4.1 Rune Damage | 4 Attack Combo
You’ll need: - Blightwood x 12
- Wild Anima (from putting infused bark into a kiln) x 6
- Swamp Thread x 3
- Vault Shards x 4
You will have to head to the Bloodlight Swamp, grab blightwood roots (you will need a bronze axe), and keep an eye out for tiny swamp fibers usually hiding near water. Swamp thread comes from spinning these swamp fibers.
You’ll also need anti-poison gear:
- Craft anti-poison pots with clay pots and harlander.
Vault Shards come from dungeons.
5. Draconic Staff
- Damage: 4.1 Rune Damage | 4 Attack Combo
- Bonus: +15% Crit Hit Chance, -15% Durability
Crafting this staff means you need to venture out to the Highlands:
- Mine iron x 10
- Jade stones x 4
- Collect granite x 6
- Combine with Vault Shards x 4
Apparently, you will find a blueprint hidden behind the castle (marked on the map above) in the northeast to craft these staff.
6. Staff of Light
- Damage: 4.5 Rune Damage | 4 Attack Combo
This is the highest base damage staff in the game. You will get this staff by completing the Highlighting The Problem quest. (Starting point marked on the map above)
Ingredients:
- Blightwood x 16
- Wild Anima x 8
- Sapphires (from gold mining) x 4
- Vault Shards x 12
- Vault Core x 1
You’ll get the blueprint from a questline starting at the College of Runescaping/Guild. Activate a statue, solve a puzzle involving a sphere, clear a dungeon, charge spires, and eventually you will get the recipe. You’ll need your magic jump ability to finish the puzzle.
How to Recharge Staff
To recharge a staff, you’ll need to have the right type of Rune. Not all Runes will work only specific ones like the Air or Fire Rune can be used with certain staves. You can tell which Runes are compatible by looking for a little symbol above the Rune icon, or by checking its description to see if it shows any damage stats. If you have more than one compatible Rune, switching between them is easy: just open your Inventory, head over to the Runes tab, tap on the Rune you want to use, and hit Equip.
