How to Find The Third Trial in Dune Awakening

The Third Trial of Aql in Dune: Awakening takes you deep into the Western Vermillius Gap, where things don’t go quite as expected. If you’re following the main questline, this part of the journey feels more mysterious than the previous ones. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to find the right location, what to expect along the way, and what really happens when you reach the Trial site.

How to Find The Third Trial

To start the Third Trial of Aql, you’ll need to check out the riddle in the Story tab under the Journey menu. The riddles can be a bit tricky and confusing to figure out.

As you explore this area, you’ll come across a few enemy-controlled spots that are worth checking out if you’re looking for extra loot and rewards. These include a heavily guarded Kirab Camp, the Coils of the Wyrm Moisture-Cave, and a Scavenger Camp at Flatrock Outpost.

But if you’re here for the Trial, the main place you need to find is The Cave of the Lost Pilgrim, and it’s tucked inside a huge rock formation in Western Vermillius Gap. Head inside, but be ready, there are enemies waiting for you as you go deeper.

How to Start The Third Trial

When you reach the site for the Third Trial of Aql, you’ll quickly realize something’s wrong; the altar isn’t there. Instead, you’ll find a shigawire recording left behind by a Fremen Scholar. In the message, the scholar sadly explains that “another altar has been destroyed by the emperor’s zealous dogs.”

He also tries to make sense of the images carved into the back of the ruined altar, suggesting that they show Fremen being torn away from their families. Since there’s no altar left, you won’t be able to complete a trial here. But the quest doesn’t end completely, you’ll get a new clue pointing to the location of the Fourth Trial, which you can find in the Journey tab.
