The Meteor Update in 99 Nights in the Forest adds the Obsidian Chest. This chest has rewards like the Obsidian Hammer. To craft it, you’ll need to take part in the meteor event, gather special materials, and use a newly built anvil. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything step by step so you can unlock and place the chest at your base.
How to Craft the Obsidian Chest in the Meteor Update
The new Meteor Update in 99 Nights in the Forest introduces a special event and a brand-new item you can craft: the Obsidian Chest.
The event starts on Day 3 of your playthrough. You’ll know it has begun when a message flashes across your screen saying: “The sky is on fire.” From this point, meteors will begin crashing all over the map.
Collecting Materials from Meteor Sites
Head to the meteor crash sites, where you’ll find glowing crystals. These are protected by crabs, so be prepared to fight them off. Use your axe to smash the crystals and collect shards.
Among the shards, you’ll want to look for Christite, a dark, obsidian-looking crystal. Breaking it will give you raw obsidian ore. To process it, throw the ore onto the ground to crack it open, then move on to the next step.
With your raw obsidian ore ready, you’ll need to purify it:
- Drop the ore into lava – this turns it into Scalding Obsidian Ingot.
- Cool it down in water – this transforms it into a regular Obsidian Ingot.
You’ll need three ingots in total to craft the chest.
In addition to the three obsidian ingots, you’ll also need:
- 5 Gold Shards
- 10 Meteor Shards
Once you have all your materials, open your map and look for the red anvil icon. That’s where you’ll need to go. Use boost pads to get there faster. The anvil building is guarded by crabs, so clear them out. After that, you’ll need to assemble the anvil itself. All the parts are lying nearby next to the blueprint.
Crafting the Obsidian Chest
When the anvil is built, interact with it. Scroll down to the bottom of the crafting menu and you’ll see the Obsidian Chest Blueprint. Place in your 10 meteor shards, 5 gold shards, and 3 ingots to activate the recipe. Once it’s done, you’ll unlock the blueprint for the chest.
After placing the chest at your base, you’ll be able to open it. Inside, you’ll find the Obsidian Hammer, which is a powerful new weapon.
