The Shrine of the Crusader is a quest in Oblivion Remastered that officially sets your feet on the sacred mission to recover the holy relics and revitalize the legacy of the Knights of the Nine. This guide will take you through every step in completing this quest.
How to Start the Shrine of the Crusader Quest in Oblivion Remastered
After completing the prerequisite quest called Pilgrimage, the quest starts right away. Completing your pilgrimage will grant you a divine vision. In this vision, you appear among the stars upon the Imperial City, where, instead of finding yourself among the citizens of the Empire, you come upon the spirit of Pelinal Whitestrake-the Divine Crusader who warns that the time approaches for the return of Umaril the Unfeathered. Defeated in battle, however, he survived because of his pact with Meridia, allowing him to resurrect himself in Oblivion each time he is defeated. To destroy him fully, you will have to recover all of the Crusader’s relics and seek the blessings of the Nine Divines.
Pelinal says the Helm of the Crusader might still lie in his former shrine, the ancient Ayleid ruin known as Vanua. Though he can’t be certain of it, he believes the helm might never have been disturbed due to the ruin’s remoteness and the threatening creatures that guard it.
Sir Amiel’s Legacy
Following this vision, your journal is updated, and you are officially recognized as a Knight Errant in the newly formed Knights of the Nine faction. A new quest marker points to Vanua, located underwater where Lake Rumare meets the Upper Niben River.
Dive beneath the surface to find the entrance to Vanua. As you explore its Ayleid corridors and navigate through areas blocked by cave-ins, you’ll eventually reach the Shrine of the Crusader. There, you’ll discover the long-dead knight, Sir Amiel.
Looting his body provides two key items:
- His journal, which recounts the tragic fall of the original Knights of the Nine and offers clues about the location of the Cuirass of the Crusader.
- His ring, a necessary item for unlocking secret rooms later in the Priory of the Nine.
Sir Amiel once led the original order that protected the relics. His writings reveal that their downfall stemmed from inner conflict and greed, setting the stage for your quest to rebuild their legacy.
Recovering the Helm of the Crusader
To claim the Helm, continue onward into the section known as The Lost Catacombs. As you progress, the path will eventually circle back, leading you to a raised altar above Sir Amiel’s remains, where the Helm rests. You can also try to skip the Lost Catacombs by using one of the following methods:
- High Acrobatics or the Boots of Springheel Jak to leap past obstacles.
- Jumping onto a broken pillar and scaling the wall.
- Sprinting across a narrow ledge to clear the fence.
- Utilizing the paint brush glitch to create floating steps.
Note: Be sure to collect Sir Amiel’s ring before leaving, it’s vital for accessing the relic vault at the Priory of the Nine.
Once you obtain the Helm, the quest is complete. Your journey then continues at the Priory of the Nine, where the search for the next holy relic begins.
