How to Beat Tyrannical Predator Boss – Lies of P: Overture

The Overture DLC wastes no time ramping up the challenge, throwing you into battle with fresh enemies and some serious boss fights. The first major wall? The Tyrannical Predator—a hulking beast with enough brute force to tear through unprepared players.

He’s no casual warm-up. This creature hits hard, chains attacks with deadly fluidity, and has some very nasty surprises tucked into his moveset. You’ll need sharp reflexes, tight timing, and ideally, a weapon that sets things on fire.

Let’s break this down step by step so you know what you’re walking into.

Understand the Fight Before You Begin

This boss doesn’t rely on an elaborate list of attacks. Instead, it’s his ability to chain simple moves into brutal combos that makes him so dangerous.

The most important things to learn early:

  • He takes extra damage from Fire. Always bring something fire-based.
  • Tail Whip can come after nearly any attack. Stay alert.
  • Grabbing Bite is cheap. Its hitbox is awkward and very easy to misjudge.

Attack Breakdown + Reactions

Tailspin Slam (Danger Zone!)

Setup: Roars, braces with one leg lifted, then spins 360 with his tail. Can pop up on its own or after nearly any move.

Response: Always strike from the sides—not behind. If you see him tense or hear the roar, dodge into the spin.

Crushing Snare (Unblockable)

Setup: Digs his jaw into the snow and charges. If caught, you get hit with a cinematic chomp that deals huge damage.

Response: Run in a straight line sideways, not diagonally, and roll at the very last second. Even with perfect timing, this can be finicky—so always keep your health up just in case.

Snap Strike

Setup: Pulls back, vibrates with a roar, then lunges forward. Comes in two versions: one with a trio of bites and a slam, the other with just one bite and a slam.

Response: Prepare for 2-3 quick dodges or parries. Counter-attack after the final slam, but stay alert for a sudden tail spin.

Crooked Snap

Setup: Turns head to the side, charges, then snaps his jaws.

Response: Sprint away from the tilted direction and dodge in line with your sprint right before the snap. Be aware it may combo into a slam.

Jawbreaker Crash

Setup: Lifts his head, crashes it down, then follows with a body slam. May lead into a Tail Whip.

Response: Roll diagonally toward his side to stay safe, or parry both hits if you’re confident. Look out for that tail follow-up!

Overbite Slam

Setup: Rears back, roars, then slams jaws downward.

Response: Parry just as his jaws are about to crush down on you, then punish with your own strike.

Battle Strategy: How to Win

Fire = Your Best Friend

He’s a Carcass-type, which means he’s extremely flammable. Fire-based weapons or fire abrasives will do bonus damage and apply burn effects quickly.

Weapon Recommendations

  • Black Steel Cutter – Great overall balance.
  • Salamander Dagger (with spear handle) – Quick and safe with reach.
  • Anything fast + Fire Abrasive – If it burns and hits fast, bring it.
  • Flamberge (Legion Arm) – Ideal for ranged pressure and fire build-up. Falcon Eye and Aegis are fine, but Flamberge outpaces them slightly in raw fire output.

Amulet Suggestions

  • Carcass Butcher’s Amulet – Better damage vs. Carcass enemies.
  • Dancing One’s Amulet – Helps with timing and mobility.
  • Extreme Modification Amulet – Boosts raw potential.
  • Iron Wall Amulet – Reduces physical damage taken.
  • Patience Amulet – Perfect for a reactive fighting style.

Tips to Tilt the Fight in Your Favor

  • Thermites work wonders. Don’t be afraid to chuck them mid-fight.
  • Never heal too close—Tail Whip will punish you hard.
  • Struggling to parry? Use the Perfection Grindstone for better timing.
  • Take initiative early. The boss has a dramatic intro—use the time to strike.
  • One-shot problems? Equip the Iron Wall Amulet or grind some Vitality to tank a hit from that grab.

Victory & What Comes Next

Taking down the Tyrannical Predator gets you a Full Moonstone, which is perfect for upgrading your new DLC weapons.

After the fight:

  • Go inside the cave past the doll.
  • Touch the Stargazer to activate your checkpoint.
  • Then seriously—sit down, grab a cinnamon roll, sip some cocoa, and breathe. You’ll need all the rest you can get. Things only get harder from here.
