The Chromatic Chapelier is a secret boss in The Crows. Unlike other encounters, this battle is all about mastering the parry. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to find Chromatic Chapelier and how to take it down.
How to Find The Crows Secret Boss (Chromatic Chapelier Boss)
To locate this boss, head to the northwest corner of The Continent. There is an optional area, The Crows. When you enter, you will see glowing crows perched on fences, kill them all. Once you have defeated them, the Chromatic Chapelier will descend from the air, and that is when the battle starts.
How to Beat The Crows Secret Boss (Chromatic Chapelier Boss)
This boss isn’t complicated, it’s all parrying. To Beat the Crows Secret Boss:
- Begin the fight with a free turn where you can debuff. Then, it’s simply surviving and countering.
- It’s not so much that you can hurt the boss unless you parry against it. The parries enable you to counter, and these counters charge the yellow break gauge below the HP of the boss.
- Once that gauge fills up, the boss gets stunned.
Don’t try to dodge. Just focus on learning the parry timing. It simplifies the fight and lets you focus on mastering one mechanic instead of juggling two.
Attack Patterns
The boss has three main attacks, and they’re all parryable:
1. Combo Attack
It’ll be either a 4-hit or 8-hit combo.
You won’t be able to tell which until it occurs, so always be prepared for the 8-hit version.
2. One-Hit Attack
This is one big hit that will totally wreck you if you don’t parry it.
Look for a little movement preceding the attack. When the boss moves a little forward motion, this is your signal to parry.
It’s all about parrying in this fight, so get your Pictos ready. Apply anything that provides you with a benefit when you successfully parry, whether it is healing or additional damage on counters. For each time you successfully parry and counter, you accumulate the boss’s yellow bar.
When full, the boss will get stunned, providing you with a great timing for your best attacks. Because the boss is vulnerable to light damage, make sure to use skills that have light damage. If you are strong enough, you can try to end the fight in one break window. With practice and a bit of patience, you’ll master the timing. And once you master it, it’s only a matter of time before you get the final blow.
