How to Beat Markiona, Puppeteer of Death Boss – Lies of P: Overture

Markiona, the Puppeteer of Death, is one of the tougher bosses you’ll face in the Lies of P: Overture DLC. What makes this fight challenging is that you’re not just battling her, you also have to deal with the Queen’s Arche Puppet at the same time. Each of them fights differently and has separate weaknesses. In this guide, we’ll break down where to find Markiona, how to prepare for the fight, and what to do in each phase to defeat her.

Markiona, Puppeteer of Death Boss – Lies of P: Overture

Markiona, the Puppeteer of Death, is a boss you’ll face in the Lies of P: Overture DLC. This fight is a bit more intense, as you’ll be taking on both Markiona and the Queen’s Arche Puppet at the same time. Like other bosses in the game, defeating Markiona will reward you with rare Ergo, a valuable resource you can later trade for powerful weapons and unique amulets. You’ll find this boss deep inside the Krat Greenhouse, specifically in the Greenhouse Interior area.

Markiona and her puppet don’t share the same weaknesses, so relying on just one weapon won’t be enough in this fight. The puppet is weak to electricity, while Markiona herself is vulnerable to acid. It’s a good idea to switch weapons mid-fight or bring along Electric and Acid Abrasives to quickly adapt. Weapons like the Electric Coil Stick with a long handle or the Acidic Crystal Spear work great here, and if you need some ranged support, the Pandemonium Legion Arm can really help.

Don’t forget to equip helpful amulets Puppet Destroyer’s, Recharging, Conquering, and Carcass Butcher’s (especially for the puppet) can give you an edge. Also, keep some consumables handy: Shot Puts, Thermite, and Saw Blades can deal quick stagger damage while keeping you out of harm’s way.

First Phase

This fight always kicks off the same way the puppet charges straight at you the moment it begins. Step forward, hold your ground, and parry the red-charged rush attack to start strong. From there, focus most of your attacks on the puppet, and only go after Markiona when she’s standing still or casting spells from a distance. Be ready for their “Switch” move, where they suddenly swap places it can catch you off guard.

The puppet fights with fast, awkward combos and sweeping tail attacks, but once you get the timing down, most of them can be parried or dodged. When the puppet goes down, Markiona will stagger and try to heal it. That’s your golden moment, hit her hard with your strongest Fable Arts, fire attacks, or anything else you’ve been holding back. If you can do enough damage, you might even push her into Phase Two before the puppet gets back up.

Second Phase

In Phase Two, Markiona starts glowing gold, and the puppet comes back even more aggressive. She opens with a move called Golden Assault, where the puppet charges three times, ending in an explosion. You’ll need to dodge twice for each hit and sidestep the final blast, then quickly punish her during the long recovery that follows. This phase blends her magic orbs with more puppet attacks, and the orbs now come with added sweeps or follow-up jump slams from the puppet.

When she uses Golden Defense, don’t try to attack, just back off, heal up, or apply buffs. Another move to watch for is Golden Charge, which ends in a Fury Attack. If you time it right and parry, you can stagger her and go in for a big Critical Hit and combo. The puppet also has a tricky fake-out move, a slow wind-up into a delayed slam. Wait about three seconds, then parry or dodge with perfect timing. And if things get too chaotic, use your throwables like Shot Puts or Thermite to safely chip away while keeping your distance.
