How to Beat Golgra in Expedition 33

Golgra is one of the optional boss in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. She is found in the Gestral Village. If you’re trying to get a unique character weapon or simply want to defeat Golgra. Here’s everything you need to know to find her, survive the duel, and claim your rewards.

How to Find Golgra

You’ll find Golgra in Gestral Village. Starting from the Gestral Village Entrance rest point, go up the slope and look for the first large wooden door. Head inside to enter the Chief’s House, and you’ll see Golgra at the far end of the room. After finishing the story events in Gestral Village, talk to Golgra to get the password you need to enter Esquie’s Nest. Once that’s done, you’ll have the option to challenge her to a duel.

How to Beat Golgra

Each character can challenge Golgra to a duel, and if you win with one, you’ll earn a unique weapon for them. Golgra is a tough boss she uses fast 3- to 4-hit combos that can be hard to keep up with. Don’t try to take her on until you’re at least level 50..

Preparaing For Battle

To defeat Golgra, you’ll need the Paintress Power, and having both Solo Fighter and Cheater Luminas is recommended. Golgra has a lot amount of HP, and since the fight is one-on-one, Paintress Power is essential for breaking the normal damage so you can deal heavy hits. It also lets you get the most out of Solo Fighter’s bonus damage.

The Cheater Lumina is also useful as it lets your character act twice in a turn. This opens up a lot of strategy, like casting a buff before attacking or setting up character-specific abilities like Maelle’s Virtuose Stance or Sciel’s Foretell stacks.

Last Stand Luminas give you a powerful buff when you’re fighting alone, which is perfect for this battle. For example, Empowering Last Stand gives you the Powerful buff, and Last Stand Critical gives you 100% critical chance. These buffs stay active for the whole fight, giving you an advantage against Golgra.

Defeating Golgra

Golgra’s attack combos have a bit of a delay before it starts, so with some practice, you can usually get the timing right to parry and counter them after a few tries. The challenge is that each hit that you don’t block can deal between 5,000 and 7,000 damage. If you miss a block, most characters will die in one attack.

To survive, equip weapons that boost your Vitality and Defense, and max out these stats to increase your character’s durability. You might also want to use Recoats if you have them. Make sure to have Recovery Pictos like Second Chance too, since with only one character, a single mistake can cost you the fight without a way to recover.

Once you get to know the Golgra’s combos and can parry, Augmented Counter is goodt for wearing her down. Characters built for Break and Stun can help fill Golgra’s meter multiple times during the fight. Each turn she spends stunned is one less turn you need to dodge her attacks. Burn can speed up the battle, but you’ll need to stack a lot of it at once to deal heavy damage.

Once Golgra drops below half her health, she’ll enter a new phase, using longer combos. Most of them are just variations of what she did earlier, but watch out for when she shakes the ground. This move requires you to jump and then perform a gradient counter, which is a bit difficult. Even though she looks like she’s on fire in this phase, Golgra is still vulnerable to fire damage, so don’t forget to use that to your advantage.

Golgra Rewards

If you duel and defeat Golgra as Maelle, you’ll get the Medalum, one of her best weapons in the game. Golgra also drops some great loot when you beat her. She’ll give you a level 28 version of the tournament weapons, which is helpful if you didn’t win the tournament with Maelle.
