How to Beat Gladius Elden Ring Nightreign

Are you having trouble with the Gladius in Elden Ring: Nightreign? This walkthrough covers just about everything: from prep for the expedition to tips on doing holy damage and picking the best Nightfarers for the job. Learn to counter his strengths, pick the right relics, and survive through the brutal three-dog phase with confidence and strategy.

Prepping for the Boss Fight: Expedition Essentials

Taking down Gladius, the Nightlord, isn’t just about the battle; it all depends on how well you plan your expedition. So if you want a much better shot at winning, first consider gathering the right gear and resources.

Exploit Gladius’s Weakness

Gladius has a big weakness against holy damage; it inflicts more damage and can cause breaks or a stun. Explore the camps, ruins, and cathedrals where the holy symbol is seen. Should you find yourself in need, some vendors sell holy weapons too but you’ll have to make sure that the weapons suit your playstyle.

Prioritize Holy-Infused Weapons and Buffs

If you find a relic that adds holy damage to your basic weapon, focus on upgrading that using Smithing Stones 1 and 2. No holy weapon? Look for Holy Grease in areas marked with the holy symbol. It’s a solid backup.

Use Overpowered Skills Like Bubble Shower to Your Advantage

Some holy-based skills are seriously overpowered against Gladius. The Bubble Shower from the Envoy’s Long Horn is a standout—especially if you’re playing as Raider. Hit Gladius when he’s still, aim for his center, and let the bubbles do the work.

Level Up Before You Show Up

Don’t try this fight below level 10. Follow the best rune farming routes, beat other bosses for passive buffs, and stop by as many churches as possible to grab healing flask upgrades and helpful consumables.

Early Relics Can Still Be Game-Changers

Even basic relics can give you an edge. Keep an eye out for these effects:

  • Boosted holy damage
  • Fire resistance or fire damage reduction
  • Extra vigor or endurance

If you’re playing Murk, visit the Small Jar Bazaar in the Roundtable Hold’s west wing. You can even roll a random relic by buying the Scenic Flatstone.

Best Characters to Use Against Gladius

Some Nightfarers are better suited for this battle than others. Here’s a quick rundown of the top picks:

  • Raider: Tough, can stagger enemies, and his Stone Stella gives cover during intense phases.
  • Wylder: Mobile with a grappling hook and a powerful stake-driver ultimate.
  • Guardian: Blocks damage effectively and casts a protective aura—great for clutch moments.
  • Ironeye: Reliable ranged damage and an AoE ultimate that hits hard.

Bonus Picks and Who to Avoid

If you’ve unlocked Duchess, she’s a solid pick too—especially if you manage to get relics that boost your ultimates. Her Restage skill lets you reuse powerful team abilities for extra damage.

Avoid using Recluse unless you’ve mastered her already—her toolkit has a steep learning curve and this fight isn’t very forgiving.
