How to beat Fang Ling in Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Fang Ling is one of the toughest and most intense boss fights in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, testing your timing, patience, and build preparation. From tricky parries to monstrous second-phase transformations, this guide breaks down her moves, weaknesses, and key strategies across both phases to help you survive the battle, and claim powerful rewards for your effort.

Fighting Fang Ling

Before facing Fang Ling, it’s wise to heed the Old Storyteller’s warning, greed can be your undoing. Rushing across the bridge will cause it to collapse, dropping you into the fight unexpectedly. To avoid this, unlock the shortcut elevator that connects back to the shrine. This ensures a quicker return if you’re defeated. Once you step off the lift, send it back up so it’s ready for your next attempt, because chances are, you’ll need a few tries.

Skills, Gear & Strategy

If you’re planning to survive Fang Ling, prep work is key. Equip yourself with skills and accessories that cater to your combat style. Here’s what to consider:

  • Deflection is king in Phase 1. Most of her strikes can be parried to interrupt combos and break her stance. Make sure your weapon supports deflection well.
  • She uses a roar that causes you to flinch. To counter this, use the Dracolich Pendant, it nullifies the flinch effect completely. If you’re confident in dodging the roar, feel free to equip something that better suits your build.
  • Fire is your best friend here. Fang Ling is especially weak to fire-based attacks and the Burn status effect. Try enchanting your weapons with fire and bring spells that ramp up Burn damage.

Strengths & Weaknesses

She deals mostly physical damage, with occasional magic and fire hits. However, one of the deadliest things about her is how fast she can stack Poise Break, which leads to staggering and heavy punishment. Blocking won’t stop the build-up either, so your best option is dodging or not getting hit at all.

On the flip side, fire tears her apart. Not only does it hurt her significantly, but Burn also increases incoming damage from other sources. Spells like Burning Flames are great at inflicting Burn quickly, making the fight shorter and more manageable.

Phase 1 Moveset

This phase emphasizes parrying and patience. Her moves are deliberate, and you’re rewarded for mastering timing. Here’s a look at what she throws at you:

Floating Shots + Slam

Shoots floating orbs from above. If you’re hit, she dives onto you.

What to do: Dodge the orbs. If hit, be ready to roll again when she drops down.

Short Roar

Snake rears up and lets out a close-range roar that stuns you.

What to do: Back away or roll just as the roar begins to avoid the flinch.

Fire Line

Fires a beam of flame in a straight line ahead.

What to do: Move to her side or back to land a strong hit while she’s locked in the animation.

Three Slash Combo

A basic set of up to three sword slashes.

What to do: Deflect each one to stop the combo early, or dodge if you’re unsure.

Double Arm Jab

Quick arm stabs – the second one reaches further.

What to do: Both can be deflected. Watch the second one’s range carefully.

Spin Jump Slash

Leaps at you while spinning with her blades.

What to do: Harder to parry, it’s safer to dodge this one instead.

Step-Forward Spins

Walks toward you while spinning and slashing.

What to do: This one is easier to deflect, interrupting her early to stop the chain.

Quick Stab Dash

Suddenly dashes in with a stab, usually from mid-range.

What to do: Fast, but deflectable if your timing is solid.

Defensive Counter

If you attack while she’s not doing anything, she can parry you and stab back.

What to do: Bait this out and be ready to parry her counter for a clean opening.

Phase 2 Moveset

Fang Ling transforms into a monstrous Chimera in phase two. Her moveset becomes less about parrying and more about staying mobile and reading fast-paced attacks. Here’s what you’re dealing with:

Big Roar

A wide-area roar that causes flinch.

What to do: Roll through it at the right time or stay far away.

Speed Dash

Charges across the arena at high speed, sometimes more than once.

What to do: Watch her body, a pause usually means she’s about to dash. Roll sideways.

Fire Sweep

Fires a beam that swings left to right, then back again.

What to do: Stay mobile and look for a safe moment to get in close.

Slam Combo

Chases you with arm slams, ending with both arms smashing down.

What to do: Dodge toward her between hits to stay close and deal damage.

Tail Spin

Spins in place with her tail and knocks you away.

What to do: Watch her movements, if she twists, she’s about to spin.

Bite Attacks

Bites a few times in quick succession.

What to do: Simple to dodge,  just stay off to the side.

Fast Swipes

Quick arm swipes that can lead into a tail spin.

What to do: Stay near the front and time your dodges carefully.

Fire Breath Blast

Breathes fire forward, which spreads and explodes.

What to do: Avoid being in front. Circle behind or to the side.

Jump Slam

Leaps and slams down when you’re far away.

What to do: Easy to see coming, roll at the right time and be ready for a follow-up.

Falling Fireballs

Shoots fire into the sky, causing fireballs to fall randomly.

What to do: Focus more on dodging her normal attacks than chasing these around.

Fire Ring Spin

Spins while breathing fire in a circle around her.

What to do: Either stay very close or back off completely to avoid the flames.

Rewards

Once both of her forms are down, you’re rewarded with:

  • Echo of Fang Ling – A spell that harnesses her power.
  • Jade Ancient Chisel – This lets you open the Benediction menu from anywhere, not just from shrines.
  • Shu Silk Fan – Give this to Tao Qing to unlock new items in their shop.
  • Bitter Severance Dual Blades – The same blades Fang Ling uses against you.
