This guide will cover everything from where to find Commander Honglan and preparation strategies, to phase strategies, weaknesses, and rewards. To help you both survive the fast-paced fight and get the victory, we’ll show you how to secure this win with ease!

How to Beat Commander Honglan

Commander Honglan is one of the strongest bosses in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and is going to require a lot of skill. She is one of the bosses found later in the game and she powered through your character with both fast and calculated attacks. Commander Honglan’s fight is one that stands out for its sheer intensity and need for rapid timing. Be sure to go into her fight with the right gear and strategies to counter and overcome this boss encounter.

Finding Her Location

To unlock the boss encounter with Commander Honglan, you will have to go to the very bottom of the Tang Palace area, and activate the NPC at the top of the overlook. After this interaction has taken place, you will want to find the NPC at the bottom of the Tang palace area to find a nearby Buddha Statue. You will need to interact with the Buddha Statue to drain the water and access the Chisel that is laying exposed underneath the reservoir. Follow the pathway to the found Chisel, and you will eventually unlock the fight access to the area of the Lotus Pond, where she’ll fight you.

Weaknesses & What to Use Against Her

For this fight, a longsword equipped with the Sword Counter skill is highly recommended, as parrying plays a crucial role. Make sure to carry healing items like Manna Vessels or Special Pills, along with anything that boosts stamina recovery. To maximize your damage output during openings, use spells such as Infernal Flames and Echo of Lu Bingzhang.

Understanding Honglan’s vulnerabilities can speed things up:

  • Burn and Paralysis effects can slowly chip away at her health, but they aren’t especially effective for dealing quick or heavy damage.
  • On the other hand, Blight, Corruption, and Poise Break work much better in this fight. These can interrupt her flow, leave her vulnerable, and create solid chances for you to strike with more impact.

Phase One Strategy

  • Before stepping into the fight, switch to your longsword, you’ll be using the Sword Counter often.
  • Honglan typically opens with a fast dash attack. While dodging is possible, it’s tricky. A parry is much safer.
  • After blocking or dodging her dash, you can land one or two strikes. Be ready to retreat quickly, she may slam her leg down to stun you or leap away to reset her position.
  • She’ll also throw kunai occasionally, which you can either parry or avoid with a well-timed dodge.
  • Use your spells when there’s a clear window.
  • Her combo chains mix martial arts with sword strikes, so stay out of her reach when she gets aggressive.

Phase Two Strategy

  • Once you cut her health down to 50%, Honglan begins using sword wave projectiles, forcing you to rely more on dodging.
  • In this phase, Shimmer becomes essential. Use it to reposition and create space.
  • Continue casting your spells whenever it’s safe, and keep avoiding her ranged attacks.

Note: This battle demands a balance of offense and defense. Between her rapid melee strikes and ranged abilities, you’ll need to parry what you can and dodge the rest. Look for brief openings after her combos to sneak in damage.

Rewards

Defeating Commander Honglan rewards you with:

  • Combo Force – A passive ability from the Wei set classified under the Wisdom type, it enhances your damage output when you successfully land continuous hits.
  • Reverent Temple Key – This key item is essential for progressing in the game, as it grants access to the side entrances of the Reverent Temple and opens the path to the following region.
