How to Avoid or Kill The BTs Near The Research Lab in Death Stranding 2

One of the biggest threats you’ll encounter in Death Stranding 2 close to the Research Lab are the BTs, mysterious ghost creatures which can quickly ruin your experience if not cautious. If you’re just trying to sneak past them or want to fight back, it’s good to know how they function and which items to use. This guide will help you understand how to spot BTs, avoid them safely, and take them down if needed.

BT in Death stranding

BTs are creepy, ghost-like creatures that show up in the world of Death Stranding. You won’t be able to see them with the naked eye unless you have a Bridge Baby (BB) or special abilities like DOOMS. You’ll know you’re entering a BT zone when the sky suddenly turns a reddish-brown color. It’s hard to miss. That’s your cue to get ready.

This is when your Odradek scanner (the little gadget attached to your BB, Lou) starts. It starts pointing and flashing in the direction of nearby BTs, helping you figure out where they are so you can avoid or deal with them.

How to Kill the BTs

If you want to kill the BTs, try to avoid getting too close to them and use your Blood Grenades on them. These are super effective against them. To equip them, hold right on the D-pad to open your gear wheel, then choose the Blood Grenades. Even though they look like one item, each one actually gives you five throws.

Hold L2 to ready a throw, and you’ll see a blue circle appear where the grenade will land. Press R2 to toss it normally, or hold R2 if you want to throw it farther. When you’re aiming, move the circle around until the BT is highlighted in red. That means it’s in range. Let the grenade fly and watch the blood mist cause the BT to vanish. The good thing is, the grenade explodes on impact, so even if it hits a wall or the ceiling, it’ll still work as long as part of the red circle touches the BT.

How to Avoid the BTs

If you want to avoid BTs without getting into trouble, sneaking past them is your best bet. Your Odradek (the little scanner on your shoulder) is super helpful here; it’ll start spinning and pointing toward nearby BTs. Once it warns you that something’s close, crouch down and slowly move in the opposite direction. Don’t run or make any sudden moves, or you’ll get noticed right away. And if you accidentally get too close to a BT, don’t panic just hold your breath. This helps you stay hidden until you can quietly move away.
