If you are about to jump into Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, you will soon realize that fighting is more than just dodging and slashing; your skill setup is a large part of your experience. This is where the Impetus Repository comes in. This is your center for character ability leveling and unlocking weapon techniques. This article will help you understand how the Impetus Repository works, how to gain points and what initial upgrades are worth your time.

What Exactly Is the Impetus Repository?

Basically, it’s Wuchang’s skill tree. You can customize your combat by unlocking stat boosts, attacks and passive skills associated with different weapons. The Impetus Repository must be accessed from specific areas in game called Shrines. Shrines are the only place you can upgrade or reset your skills, so keep that in mind as you plan your routes.

    Why Use It?

    1. More Health & Stamina = More Survivability

You’ll find several nodes in the Repository that raise your HP and stamina. Since most enemies can take you down in just a couple of hits, building up your base stats is always a solid move.

    2. Unlock Special Weapon Skills

Every weapon type—like swords, spears, or heavy arms—has its own skill path. As you progress, you can unlock combos or abilities unique to that weapon. Example? Longsword users can activate Skyborn Might after chaining two basic strikes.

    3. Boost Your Combat Buffs

Want to fill your Skyborn Might bar faster? Some upgrades let you do exactly that. Spear users, for instance, can generate a resource called Boldheart, which becomes usable for boosting Skyborn Might—if the right node is unlocked.

    How to Use the Repository

You can’t unlock or adjust your skills on the fly in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, you’ll need to visit a Shrine to access the Impetus Repository. There, you can refine the Red Mercury you’ve gathered during exploration into Red Mercury Essence, which functions like skill points. Once refined, you can spend this Essence to unlock or upgrade abilities. The system is flexible too; you’re free to reset and redistribute your points whenever needed, making it easy to adapt your build for different weapons or challenging boss encounters.

    Gathering Red Mercury

You’ll need Red Mercury to start unlocking skills, and the process is pretty straightforward. As you explore the world or take down enemies, you’ll collect Red Mercury, which then needs to be refined into Red Mercury Essence at a Shrine. This Essence acts as your currency for leveling up skills in the Impetus Repository. But be warned, if you’re defeated before refining it, you’ll drop all your unrefined Mercury on the spot. If you die again before recovering it, it’s gone forever. On the bright side, once it’s refined into Essence, it’s safely yours to use whenever you like.

    Where to Find Red Mercury

There are three main ways to collect it:

    • Fighting enemies: The tougher the enemy, the better the drop.
    • Using items: You’ll come across consumables like Red Mercury Shoots. Use them in your inventory to add to your Mercury pool.
    • Exploring new locations: Some zones reward you with Mercury just for entering.

    Recommended Early Game Skills

When starting out, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by choices. Here are some reliable picks that’ll help you stay alive and deal solid damage:

    ➤ Boldheart

Tailored for spear users, Boldheart generates a resource of the same name with each attack. Once you’ve unlocked the right nodes, Boldheart can be converted into Skyborn Might, making spears more viable and rewarding.

    ➤ Skyborn Call I

This ability increases the amount of Skyborn Might you can store. Since Skyborn Might powers many of your strongest combat abilities, having a higher capacity early on gives you a big advantage in battles.

    ➤ Manna Capacity

Allows you to carry more Manna Potions, which are essential for healing and survival. To unlock this skill, you’ll need a special item called a Forgotten Remembrance, usually found in golden chests throughout the game world.

    ➤ Sword Saint

Perfect for players using a longsword. With this skill, your second light attack grants one stack of Skyborn Might, making it easier to trigger powerful buffs during normal combat sequences.

    ➤ Biding Time

Ideal for one-handed sword users. This passive ability occasionally grants you a stack of Skyborn Might at random, helping you maintain pressure in fights even when you’re not actively building up resources.

Note: You don’t have to invest in everything. If you’re not a fan of heavy weapons, skip those branches entirely. Focus your points on the tools and techniques you actually enjoy using. The system is flexible, so experiment freely!

    Final Thoughts

The Impetus Repository isn’t just another upgrade menu, it’s the foundation of how your character grows in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Mastering it means fewer deaths, faster kills, and smoother boss fights. So keep exploring, stay cautious with your Mercury, and fine-tune your build as you go.
