The First Berserker: Khazan is the latest action role-playing game released on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. It has been just a few hours since this game was launched, and we saw a lot of players reporting that the game is stuttering constantly. According to reports, the most frequent time that it happens is during boss attacks, and the game becomes unplayable. If you are also experiencing the same issue and looking for the best solutions, go through all the steps in this guide to fix this problem.

Fixing The First Berserker: Khazan Stuttering Issue

Stuttering is a common issue and occurs in almost all major online games. Thankfully, this issue is fixable and this guide has covered all possible solutions to resolve it.

    1. Switch to DX11

One of the first solutions shared by many players is to switch the game from DirectX 12 (DX12) to DX11. It will reduce or eliminate the stuttering issue. Although DX12 offers better visuals and performance optimizations it can cause stability issues, especially on GPUs with lower VRAM. Here is how you can switch it.

    1. Go to Steam Library
    2. Right-click on the game and select Properties
    3. Go to General tab >> Launch Options
    4. Add the following command:
    • -dx11
    1. Once done, close and relaunch the game.

    2. Using NVIDIA Driver Version 566.36

Some other players suggest rolling back to your older driver version like 566.36 to fix this issue. This workaround will help you to reduce stuttering problems caused by driver-related compatibility issues with UE games.

    1. Go to the official NVIDIA Driver Downloads page: NVIDIA Driver Downloads
    2. Select your GPU model and OS
    3. Download driver version 566.36
    4. Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove the current driver:
    5. Download DDU: DDU Download
    6. Run DDU in Safe Mode
    7. Select Clean and restart
    8. Install driver 566.36
    9. Restart your PC and relaunch the game.

    3. Clear Shader Cache & Increase Cache Limit

If you are still struggling to fix the stuttering issue in The First Berserker: Khazan, then try clearing the shader cache and increasing the cache limit size in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Follow the below steps for this:

    1. Clear the shader cache:

    1. Open up the Run dialogue box by pressing Win + R and then type: %localappdata%\NVIDIA
    2. Find the folder named DXCache and GLCache
    3. Delete all the contents inside these folders
    4. Restart your PC.

    2. Increase the cache size limit:

    1. Right-click on the desktop >> Select NVIDIA Control Panel
    2. Go to Manage 3D Settings >> Select the Program Settings tab
    3. Find the game or add it manually.
    4. Find Shader Cache Size >> Set it to Unlimited
    5. Click on Apply and relaunch the game.

    4. Capping FPS Slightly Below Max Refresh Rate (G-Sync)

If you are using a G-Sync or FreeSync monitor, it is advisable to cap the FPS slightly below your monitor’s refresh rate. This will help you to reduce stuttering issues while playing the game. Here is how to do it:

    1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel >> Go to Manage 3D Settings
    2. Select the Program Settings tab >> Choose The First Berserker: Khazan
    3. Scroll down to Max Frame Rate >> Set it to: 3-5 FPS below your monitor’s refresh rate.

    For example:

    • 120Hz >> Cap at 116 FPS
    • 144Hz >> Cap at 139 FPS
    1. At last, click on Apply and exit the NVIDIA Control Panel.

That’s it for this guide on how to fix The First Berserker: Khazan stuttering issue.
