Fix Dying Light: The Beast Stutters and FPS Drops

Dying Light: The Beast is live now, and players around the world have already jumped into this unique blend of open world and action survival horror game developed and published by Techland. However, like any other modern online game, this game is also not free from several issues, bugs, and errors. One of the common issues we found in several threads is the performance-related problems. Multiple players are complaining about the stuttering and FPS-dropping issues in Dying Light: The Beast. If you are also experiencing the same issue and looking for the best solutions to get it fixed, this guide will help you resolve this major problem.

How to Fix Dying Light: The Beast Stutters and FPS Drops

According to reports, players with high-end GPUs like RTX 4070 Ti are also having bad performance while playing this game. Thankfully, several players have managed to resolve this issue, and this guide has covered all possible solutions to fix stuttering and FPS drops in Dying Light: The Beast.

1. Lower Graphics Settings

One of the first and quickest solutions to fix this problem is to lower the in-game graphics settings. In case the game is poorly optimized, certain settings may cause stuttering and FPS drops. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Go into Settings >> Video.
  2. Temporarily switch from Ultra/High to Medium across key settings such as Shadows, Textures, and Reflections
  3. Once done, relaunch the game and play it for a while
  4. If you notice the better performance, try increasing the settings gradually

2. Update or Reinstall GPU Drivers

If your GPU drivers are outdated, you might face several issues while playing the game. It is vital to update your GPU drivers regularly for a smoother gaming experience.  It is recommended to visit the official website of the manufacturer of your GPU drivers and install the latest version.

You may also use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode. This tool will help you remove the drivers from your system completely and then download the drivers from scratch.

3. Check Background Applications and Overlays

The next step is to check and kill background applications and overlays that are using high CPU and RAM. For this:

  1. Open up Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys on your keyboard
  2. Check the CPU, GPU, and RAM usage and monitor which applications (Antivirus program, launchers, web browsers) and overlays (Steam, Discord, GeForce Experience, etc.)
  3. Close them by pressing right-click and end task
  4. After closing all of them, relaunch the game.

4. Disable DLSS Frame Generation & Use FSR 3.1 FG Instead

Several players reported that the main culprit is NVIDIA’s Frame Generation in this game, which causes these problems. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Go to in-game graphics settings >> Find the DLSS option
  2. Then, toggle the Frame Generation setting to Off or Disabled
  3. Once done, relaunch the game. The issue should now be fixed.

5. Use DLSS

Some other players suggest using DLSS without FG to help them fix this problem quickly. DLSS helps to reduce GPU load. For that, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Video Settings >> Enable DLSS
  2. Then, Disable Frame Generation
  3. Ensure to keep the resolution at 1440p or higher to minimize the blurring issue
  4. Relaunch the game and check the performance.

6. Use Dynamic Resolution + Frame Generation

When you combine Frame Generation with Dynamic Resolution stabilization performance, the game manages resolution at its best and also helps to keep the FPS consistent. For this:

  1. Go to Video Settings >> Resolution Options
  2. Enable Dynamic Resolution Scaling
  3. And turn ON Frame Generation
  4. Lastly, set resolution scaling between 90% to 100% for a balance between visuals and performance.
  5. Relaunch the game, and the game should run very smoothly.

7. Set FPS to 120 or 144 In-Game

A few players suggest that setting FPS to 120 or 144 will help you fix the low FPS and stuttering issue in Dying Light: The Beast. This setting will provide stability and help to reduce stuttering issues. You can do this in the in-game Settings >> Display.

That’s all you can try fixing Dying Light: The Beast stuttering and low FPS issue.
