Looking to gain a serious advantage early in the Oblivion Remastered? This guide will show you how to snag two incredibly useful items right at the start of your adventure: the Fin Gleam helmet and the Boots of the Eel. The Fin Gleam allows you to breathe underwater—making exploration and treasure hunting a breeze—while the Boots of the Eel offer resistance to shock damage, perfect for magic users or a nice bit of gold if you decide to sell them. Both items are easy to find and located near the starting areas, so let’s dive in!

To get the helmet, head to Anvil, right on the west coast of the map. You’ll be able to fast travel there from the beginning of the game. Just to the left of the town is a small island. Head to the island, and at the top of it where there is a large rock, stand next to the rock on the left and look out to the sea and assess. You can jump into the water straight ahead of you and then head to the sea floor.
If you look closely, you will see a skeleton on the seafloor with the helmet attached to it. You can instantly pick it up and equip it so you can breathe underwater and you won’t drown.
Note: A simple method to find Fin Gleam is to use a Night Eye potion or spell for better visibility and have a way to breathe underwater—like a potion, spell, or being an Argonian. With Night Eye active, the helmet will appear as a bright blue spot on the sea floor, making it easier to locate.

Next, the other item is nearby in the town. Head to the dock and go to Lelles’ Quality Merchandise. If you head upstairs to the bedroom, you can discover the Boots of the Eel on the ground in the back bedroom. These protect you from self-inflicted shock damage. So if you’re a magic user, these are great to have especially early on, or you can sell them for a decent price.
