Serpenphare is one of the most difficult optional bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, located above the water at the Forgotten Battlefield. This guide will explain where to find the boss, how to prepare your party, and specific strategies—like shield stealing, AP generation, and overloading techniques for battling this tanky Nevron enemy.
How to Find the Serpenphare in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
If you are searching for Serpenphare, it is located over the water to the east of the Forgotten Battlefield—right behind Sprong. It is situated between the Boat Graveyard and the White Sands, so keep a lookout in the close vicinity. Since it’s about flying above the water, you cannot reach it until Act 3, after Esquie has unlocked flying.
Now, just a warning to you, this boss is extremely tough. The boss battle will last 10+ minutes with a lot of intense fighting in between. So, before diving in you will need to make sure your team is well prepared.
What Makes Serpenphare So Annoying?
Serpenphare is a Nevron-type defensive boss that plays dirty. It shuts down your team’s skills, steals AP, and even puts up a fresh layer of shields at the beginning of every turn. So, this means you’ll have to spend more time in breaking down those defenses and less time in actually harming it.
Team Setup Tips
To counter all that nonsense, you have Maelle. She has a Barrier Breaker weapon and her Breaking Rules skill; these are very important because they permit her to steal Serpenphare’s shields, which is extremely helpful in the long run.
Monoco is also extremely important. They are fantastic at keeping your team protected using defensive skills like Cruler Barrier, Boucheclier Fortify, and Sanctuary-this means less time spent after healing and more time for doing damage.
Amp Up Your AP with Buffs + Lumina
Here’s a pro tip: you can stack buffs and Lumina effects to generate up to 6 AP from just one skill. Here’s how:
Monoco’s Boucheclier Fortify gives the team a Shell buff.
Equip Lumina like:
- Energising Shell (gives 2 AP)
- Powerful on Shell (adds Powerful)
- Energising Powerful (more AP)
- Rush on Powerful (adds Rush)
- Energising Rush (even more AP)
Mix and match the buffs—Shell, Powerful, Rush—any order works. Stack them right, and boom: 6 AP to spend on those big 8 or 9 AP abilities. You can also use Energising Turn and Cheater for even more AP and action economy.
Alternative Strategy: Make Serpenphare Explode
Here’s another clever tactic: overload its AP on purpose. If you keep generating AP without spending it, Serpenphare will absorb the excess until it overloads and explodes, taking a huge hit and getting stunned. You can dodge the explosion, then go all in with buffs and heavy attacks.
To avoid the backlash:
- Use a Shield to block the damage.
- Equip Anti-Stun Lumina to skip the stun effect.
