Unlike most pokémons in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Overqwil does not evolve through easy leveling up; therefore, players who aren’t familiar with how to trigger its evolution may have difficulty. Hisuian Qwilfish has a unique characteristic where he evolves after learning a specific move-based condition tied to the Mega Dimension content. This guide will detail everything about the items required for you to successfully evolve your Hisuian Qwilfish to Overqwil and provide detailed steps for completing this task without wasting your time.
Where Hisuian Qwilfish Appears

Only through the Mega Dimension DLC can players obtain Hisuian Qwilfish. In general, this Pokémon can be found within 3-star Hyperspace Wild Zones where there are heavy concentrations of either Dark Type Pokémon and/or Poison Type Pokémon.

When looking at the Hyperspace Pokémon listings, try to look for a more sharp, quilled outline instead of the normal round shape (regular version). Once players complete the Hyperspace Lumiose Survey No. 3, which means they’ll have to catch a Mega Tatsugiri, they will get access to the 3-Star Hyperspace Wild Zones located around Lumiose City.
Note: If Qwilfish appears in a 2-Star Hyperspace, it will always be the standard form and cannot evolve into Overqwil.
How the Evolution Works
To evolve Hisuian Qwilfish, you need to use the move Barb Barrage 20 times. Nothing else affects the evolution. The move becomes available at level 28, and since most Hisuian Qwilfish are caught in the low 20s, very little leveling is needed before you can start progressing toward Overqwil.
The uses don’t have to happen in one battle. They’re counted across encounters, and the move doesn’t even need to be used against Pokémon for it to register.
How to Evolve Hisuian Qwilfish into Overqwil

Once Barb Barrage is unlocked, you can clear the requirement without much effort. Using the move repeatedly against low-level Pokémon works. After Barb Barrage has been used 20 times, Hisuian Qwilfish will be ready to evolve into Overqwil. There are no items involved, no time restrictions, and no hidden conditions beyond the move requirement.
