Dying Light: The Beast’s Chain Reaction side quest is likely the most integrated of all the game’s side quests. Ordered by Selby, it combines moral conflict with high-tension action set pieces before culminating in a choice that requires you to balance loyalty and compassion. Though the moments of the story do pay off, most of the players have difficulty with quest goals—especially finding the last room out of desperation. Each step of this guide explains in minute detail so you won’t miss anything.
Step 1: Disable the Gas Canisters in the Camping Park

Your first mission finds you at an overrun camp park with just one Goon and a multitude of Infected.
- It is full of red gas canisters that have continuous spawns of enemies.
- Instead of wasting resources fighting the endless horde, worry about survival.
- Thin the crowd whenever necessary, then capitalize on openings to reach each canister.
- Close valves to cut off the supply of gas and reduce the danger.
- Having obtained the canisters, enter the main shelter and deal with the lone survivor.
Step 2: Acquire Supplies from the Outpost

The survivor Lucy dispatches you to a remote outpost to gather fuel and rations. This is combat level, but you do have choices:
- Make use of tall grass for stealthy kills.
- Or simply charge in guns blazing, whitting the area in a rush.
In the outpost building, remove the rations box from the table and remove the rations outside to the truck. For fuel, find next to the door of the smaller hut at the other side of the back door of the main building. With the two items, stock and supply for the next level.
Step 3: Run to Lucy’s Rendezvous Point

Once you’ve acquired the items, Selby will call you to let you know that you shouldn’t trust Lucy. Then you have 1 minute and 50 seconds to get to her meeting location, so drive quickly and take the quest marker route.
When you get there, the real trick is: getting to the correct room. Most players spend valuable time looking further into the house, but Lucy and Selby are actually in the first room to the left, behind the sofa in front of the main hall. Do not jump over the sofa—merely proceed straight into that side room.
Step 4: Make Your Choice

There, you can see Selby with Lucy held hostage at gunpoint. Once the confrontation is over, you have the following choice:
- Let Selby kill Lucy.
- Make Selby release her.
Your choice will not impact the overall story, so role-play your own sense of morality. You’ll be making Selby hate what you’ve done by saving Lucy, but either way, goodbye to her.
Rewards for Completing Chain Reaction
Completing the quest rewards you with beneficial loot and experience:
- 2 Legendary Manual Pages
- +10,000 XP
- Co-op Lootbox (upon co-op completion)
Chain Reaction is more than a fetch-and-fight side quest, but instead a demonstration of how Dying Light: The Beast does an excellent job of incorporating narrative choice and survival elements. Your decision doesn’t influence the overall story, but the moral implication of mercy or Selby on Lucy gives depth to the world.
