For Hytale’s first major update, several exciting changes have been introduced, which include improved combat mechanics, torch placement, and the long awaited addition of dinosaurs in the game. The update hasn’t gone live yet, but players can already enjoy this content, thanks to the pre-release version. So, if you’re someone who is excited for the introduction of dinosaurs, read along to find out every detail!
Enable the Pre-Release Update & Create the Right Settings
Okay, so what you’ll need to do is start by opening the game settings to enable the pre-release update. Go to the patch line option and choose pre-release instead of release. Next, download the patch and launch the game. You’ll see a confirmation that pops up on the main menu indicating the update has been installed in the correct way.
You must create a new world to access this content. Creative mode does not currently spawn mobs, so it will not work for this purpose. Select exploration mode instead. To make traversal easier, you can disable fall damage in the settings, especially since you will begin without gear.
Craft Essential Gear First
Okay, so before you start with your travels, getting basic resources like wood or stone to use at the workbench is important. You’ll be able to use them to make items like daggers for surviving in the harsh environments.
Remember to be cautious around carnivorous plants because their poison effect can drain health over time and can quickly become deadly for you.
Once you’re prepared, make your way to the Devastated Lands (region with underground jungles with dinosaurs). To reach this biome, you will need to cross an ocean first. If you’re thinking of fast travel, you’ll need to charge your daggers in order to launch yourself through the air.
Locate Volcano Entrances
To locate the volcanoes, open your map and look for the red dots which indicate volcano mountaintops. These volcanoes are the entrances to the underground jungle caves and climbing them is dangerous but necessary.
What you’ll need to do is place a battery at the top of a volcano to make sure that if you die underground, you can respawn at the volcano and quickly return to the caves. Next, jump directly into the volcano while keeping your daggers equipped. Use your daggers for charged attack and dash out of the lava. Eating some food afterward should help stabilize your health.
Once inside, you’ll encounter poisonous plants almost immediately and this could pose a serious threat to you, so be careful. If the area doesn’t seem like the jungle area then you’ll need to respawn and try going inside another volcano.
Note: The volcanoes that are marked with a golden circle seem to have a higher chance of leading you directly into jungle caves.
Dinosaurs You Will Encounter in the Underground Jungle
The underground jungle houses many dinosaurs that include Triceratops, Pterodactyls, Velociraptors, and the super dangerous Cave Rex. It’s worth noting though that the Cave Rex hits you very hard and it can defeat you in just two attacks, so remember to approach with caution.
Currently, dinosaurs only drop heavy leather and meat with the option of riding them not being available right now. But riding the dinosaurs is a feature many are hoping to see in the upcoming updates.
