Death Stench armor is a fan favorite returning in Monster Hunter Wilds, with its dark and chic appearance as well as aggressive defensive strength. The creepy but intimidating equipment features strong elemental resistances and precious skills that support the survivability of a hunter in combat. Still, acquiring the complete set comes at a high cost with expensive materials needed to craft it, such as the rare Sinister Cloth, which is not available through standard hunting. Be it for its eerie look or its finely tuned stats, you need to know how to acquire the materials required. Here’s all you need to know to get Sinister Cloth and craft the Death Stench armor.

It also has five Level 2 Decoration Slots and two Level 1 Decoration Slots, providing players with space to upgrade its capabilities and offset its mediocre Equipment Skills. Although the highlight of the armor is its high Elemental Resistance, its actual strength comes in customization, and it is a good choice for hunters who are able to compensate for its weakness to Thunder.
How to Craft Death Stench Alpha Set
Most materials are pretty easy to gather since they come from small monsters rather than the big ones. However, Sinister Cloth can be a bit trickier, and you’ll need five of them to fully craft the armor. You won’t be able to get Sinister Cloth until you reach High Rank, which happens after completing Chapter 3 – 5 in Monster Hunter Wilds.

How to Obtain Sinister Cloth in Monster Hunter Wilds
Sinister Cloth is not something you can just get by killing monsters or shattering their limbs, such as Nerscylla Claws. Unlike regular materials, you will not be able to find it at gathering points, as drops from monsters, or even as rewards for quests. Getting Sinister Cloth takes a little more work and planning. There are only two ways to get this rare crafting material: by seeking help from a Village Intermediary or by trading with specific NPCs. While the process is straightforward, it’s easy to overlook if you’re not paying attention.
A Passive Way to Gather Sinister Cloth
One way to get Sinister Cloth is through Village Intermediaries, NPCs who passively gather materials for you over time. These intermediaries replace the Ancient Tree and Tailrider Safari systems from previous Monster Hunter games, making them essential for collecting rare resources.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, Murtabak from Kunafa has a small chance of finding Sinister Cloth during his expeditions. However, he only offers his services after you complete the Continuing Conflict side quest, and even then, the odds of him bringing back this rare material are quite low.
Trading with NPCs for Sinister Cloth
Alternatively, you can obtain Sinister Cloth through trading. Gawdygog, a trader based in Wudwud Hideout in the Scarlet Forest, is a reliable source, but he only accepts Ancient Wyvern Coins in exchange, an extremely rare special item. He often demands large quantities of these coins, but fortunately, there’s a way to farm them infinitely.
NPC trader inventories rotate frequently, so it’s worth checking in with Gawdygog or speaking to Nata to see if they have Sinister Cloth available. Another trader, Kilama from Kunafa, also offers Sinister Cloth on rare occasions, though she prefers to trade for Special Items like Windward Aloe. If you’re looking to refresh trader inventories, you can use the Rest option in your tent to speed up the process.
How to Obtain Herbivore Carapace in Monster Hunter Wilds
Ceratonoth are small monsters, so they’re pretty weak and don’t put up much of a fight. There are both male and female Ceratonoth, you can tell the males apart by the large spike on their backs.
When you defeat them, they drop materials like the Herbivore Carapace, but here’s the catch: you’ll only get Herbivore Carapace from High Rank Ceratonoth. If you’re battling Low Rank ones, you’ll end up with Herbivore Shells instead.
If you’re hunting Ceratonoth, the easiest way to find them is by using the Filter Items option in the menu. Or just head to the plains near the Oasis, they often gather there along with other monsters, drawn to the cool water.
How to Obtain Colossal Bones in Monster Hunter Wilds
You can only get Colossal Bones by defeating and carving monsters once you reach High Rank in Monster Hunter Wilds.
The monsters that drop Colossal Bones are:
- Conga — found in the Scarlet Forest
- Blango — found in the Iceshard Cliffs
You can also earn Colossal Bones as rewards for completing Optional Quests tied to these monsters, along with other loot.
How to Obtain Wingdrake Hides in Monster Hunter Wilds
Wingdrake Hides come from Baunos, small flying monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds. You can find them in the Windward Plains, usually soaring around Areas 8, 10, 11, and 13. If you’re hunting for Baunos, just head to those areas and keep an eye on the sky, they’re pretty easy to spot!
How to Obtain Quality Bones in Monster Hunter Wilds
Quality Bones are a resource you can gather from Bone Piles scattered across the maps in Monster Hunter Wilds, but they only start showing up once you reach High Rank (HR 8 and above).
Just like Mining Outcrops, you can interact with a Bone Pile up to three times to collect items from a random loot pool. Quality Bones can be found in all high-rank areas, usually along the edges of the map. Sometimes, the Bone Piles even form paths, making it easy to gather from multiple spots in a row. You might also find some conveniently close to base camps or pop-up camps.
