Clair Obscur Expedition 33 – Best Gustave Build Guide

If you want to get the most out of Gustave in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, this guide is for you. Gustave is one of the game’s strongest damage dealers, thanks to his fast-hitting skills, charge-building mechanics, and powerful Overcharge ability. If you’re just starting out or looking to optimize his build, here’s everything you need to know to make Gustave more useful on the battlefield.

Best Gustave Build in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

Gustave is a strong party member in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 when it comes to dealing out damage. He fights using a sword and pistol combo, and has a powerful move called Overcharge. When fully charged, Overcharge can hit hard and even break enemy stances. To build it up, you just need to land regular attacks, use skills, or pull off perfect parries and dodges.

Best Weapons for Gustave

If you’re playing as Gustave, the best weapon to go for early on is the Cruleram. You can get it by defeating Goblu in the Flying Waters area, just don’t forget to help out the Demineur nearby while you’re there. The Cruleram deals heavy damage, and since it has Ice-typing, it’s good against a lot of early-game enemies.

It works best with Defence and Luck stats, and even more if you upgrade it. So, when you’re leveling up, it’s a good idea to focus on those two, along with a bit of Might to increase your overall damage.

Gustave’s skills often rely on Critical Hits. So, by increasing your Luck, you’re not only making the Cruleram stronger, but also making it easier to fill up your Overcharge meter.

Best Skills for Gustave

Gustave’s skills are all about dealing big damage and building up Charges fast. Lumière Assault is great for this; it hits multiple times and usually gives you around 6 or 7 Charges in one go. Once you’ve built up 10 Charges, you can unleash Overcharge, which hits a single enemy super hard and often breaks them too.

If you want your team to be good, Powerful gives everyone a damage buff for 3 turns and adds 2 Charges as a bonus. Marking Shot is a cheap move that marks an enemy so they take more damage from all sources, making it great for setting up big combos. Shatter is for hitting multiple enemies and causing Breaks, perfect as a setup or a strong finisher. And when you’ve got the AP, Strike Storm gives out big damage while also giving you a nice amount of Charges.

Best Pictos for Gustave

If you want Gustave to use his charge-building skills as often as possible, you’ll need to make sure he’s always gaining AP. The best way to do that is by equipping Pictos that help him earn AP during combat.

Here are some of the Pictos for him:

  • Rewarding Mark gives you +2 AP whenever Gustave hits a Marked enemy (once per turn), which pairs perfectly with his Marking Shot.
  • Dead Energy II gives you +3 AP whenever he lands a kill.
  • Dodger adds +1 AP when you pull off a Perfect Dodge, also once per turn.

With these Pictos, Gustave can earn AP in different ways, whether he’s taking out enemies, hitting marked ones, or just dodging well. This helps keep his skills flowing and his charge meter rising.

Best Attributes for Gustave

A lot of Gustave’s skills like From Fire, Lumière Assault, and Strike Storm hit multiple times, which makes Luck a really important stat for him. Luck increases his chance to land critical hits, so the more you have, the more likely it is that those multi-hit moves will deal a ton of extra damage. Of course, you’ll also want to put some points into Might, too, since that boosts all of his damage across the board. Together, Luck and Might help Gustave hit harder and more often.
