Chess Puzzle Solution Blue Prince

In Blue Prince you’ll encounter the Chess Puzzle hidden deep within Mt. Holly Manor. This puzzle requires you to track down missing chess pieces scattered throughout the estate and return them to their rightful places. Solving it will unlock powerful game blessings. Here’s everything you need to know to find the pieces, solve the puzzle, and claim your reward.

Chess Puzzle Location

While exploring the Underground area of Mt. Holly Manor, just beyond the blue flame elevator, you will come across a large chamber filled with chess-themed decorations. At the centre of the room there is chessboard which you need to solve.

Chess Puzzle Solution

The chess puzzle in the game revolves around finding missing pieces scattered throughout the mansion. As you explore different rooms, you’ll come across these pieces and collect them. Each square on the chessboard represents a room, and once you’ve gathered the pieces, you’ll need to place each one on the square that matches the room where you found it.

Because the item locations can vary from playthrough to playthrough, finding the pieces can be a bit of a challenge. To make things easier, here’s a list of rooms where you’re most likely to find each piece:

  • King – Throne Room, Study
  • Queen – Her Ladyship’s Chamber, Office
  • Rook – Vault, Clock Tower, Conservatory, Nook
  • Knight – Observatory, Security, Treasure Trove
  • Bishop – Bookshop, Attic, Chapel
  • Pawn – Freezer, Solarium, Den, Storeroom, Lost and Found/Walk-In Closet, Secret Passage, Dining Room, Bedroom, Drawing Room

Keep track of where you find each piece, then head back to the chessboard and place them on the tiles that match their locations. That’s the key to solving the puzzle.

Chess Puzzle Rewards

After solving the Chess Puzzle in Blue Prince, the walls of the chamber will slide open, revealing towering statues of each chess piece. From there, you’ll get to choose one special Chess Power or blessing. The power you pick stays active across multiple runs, unless you decide to swap it out by solving the entire puzzle again from the beginning.

Here’s what each Chess Power does:

  • Ambition of the Pawn: When you reach rank 8 during a day, you can pick the power of a Knight, Bishop, Rook, or Queen. You’ll keep that power until the day ends.
  • Resilience of the Rook: You can draw floor plans up to four times when you’re drafting the house’s corner rooms.
  • Piety of the Bishop: You no longer have to pay tithes. Instead, the first time you visit the Chapel each day, you earn +30 gold.
  • Mantle of the Knight: Unlocks the Armory room and adds it to your draft pool.
  • Gambit of the Queen: Every time you draft a room on the Queenside (the west wing of the house), you lose five steps but gain a key.
  • Banner of the King: Each day, you can pick a room color from your inventory or menu. That color will be more likely to show up while drafting rooms.

Just keep in mind, if you ever want to switch your Chess Power, you’ll need to complete the puzzle all over again.
