If you’re in the Lost Histories quest in Oblivion Remastered, this quest can be a bit tricky, with multiple ways to get into the dungeon. If you want to sneak your way in, charm your way past the guards, or just let yourself get arrested on purpose, there’s a path for every playstyle. Here’s a simple walkthrough to help you break into the dungeony part of the quest and complete the quest.
How to Break into the Dungeony in Lost Histories Quest
First head into the town and talk to a beggar. Give them a few coins, and they’ll point you in the direction you need to go. That’ll start your journey off and send you toward the prison. Once you’re at the prison area, here’s where things can go a few different ways. There are three main methods to break into the dungeon and talk to the prisoner you need.
Method 1: Pick the Lock and Get Caught
- You need to pick the lock on the prison door.
- The guards will catch you, and you’ll get thrown in jail.
- But here’s the thing that’s actually part of the quest. Being in jail lets you talk to the prisoner and move forward.
- After the conversation, you’ll need to find a way back into the dungeon later. This is where things can get difficult.
Method 2: Get a Job at the Castle
- Talk to the guard out front and butter him up (use persuasion or bribe).
- He’ll mention a butler inside the castle who’s offering jobs.
- Go find the butler, take the job, and you’ll get access to the prison.
- This way is easier, but it takes a bit longer.
Method 3: Pickpocket the Guard
- You can just pickpocket the guard who patrols near the dungeon.
- Make sure you’re hidden or behind him, don’t get caught.
- You only need the dungeon key don’t grab extra keys, or you’ll raise suspicion.
- Once you’ve got the key, you can slip into the dungeon without getting arrested.
How to Talk to the Prisoner in Jail
After you talk to the prisoner, look for a candle you can activate, this opens a secret passage. Inside, there are more puzzles and secret doors watch for levers and hidden candles. Eventually, you’ll reach a wine cellar and find another secret area. Be ready there’s a boss fight up ahead. Also, there’s a weird bug where a random NPC might follow you down there. If that happens, try not to hit them during the fight.
After beating the boss (the Pale Lady), talk to the NPC in the back. Have him follow you out of the castle. If you got arrested at any point, pay the gold fine it actually makes it easier to leave with the NPC. Once you’re out of the castle grounds, a message will pop up saying the quest is complete. Talk to the final character to wrap it up.
Tips
- Save often. The quest is buggy and can soft-lock depending on what path you take.
- Don’t panic if you get thrown in jail it’s actually one valid path.
- If something seems off, try a different route this quest was designed to have multiple ways to solve it.
