Beginner Tips & Tricks to Play Rematch

If ball control is your thing, and you want to outplay others, here are a few beginner tips and tricks to learn. Rematch-a player-versus-player soccer game made by Sloclap, creators of Sifu–out on June 19, 2025, this game promises to be intense, speedy, and highly dynamic. The game would be seen in a third-person perspective, and the unique control mechanisms would have a high skill ceiling making it a bit daunting for newbies.

The game stands out with its unique movement system and creative tricks designed to outwit other players. To help you ease into the game and understand the fundamentals, here’s a guide packed with beginner-friendly tips and strategies for Rematch. To practice, go to the lobby and select the Free Play option at the bottom right of the screen. This will help you practice the tips shared in this guide.

Tip 1: Make the Most of the Walls Around You

In Rematch, the ball always stays in play since there are no sidelines or out-of-bounds areas. Instead, the field is enclosed by screens that simulate an outdoor setting. As a player, you can use the surrounding walls to your advantage by bouncing the ball off them to reposition it for yourself or your teammates.

One of the most effective ways to use this mechanic is around the goal. For example, you can fake a shot to trigger the goalkeeper’s catching animation, then quickly bounce the ball off the top of the goal and take a real shot. This clever move can easily throw the keeper off and create a scoring opportunity.

Tip 2: Practice Makes All the Difference in Rematch

One of the first things you should learn is how to practice effectively in Rematch. From the main menu, you can access Freeplay mode by clicking the button located at the bottom right corner of the screen.

This mode drops you into an empty field where you can train solo, giving you the perfect space to refine your skills and perfect any tricks or techniques you’ve learned. There’s also a useful Ball Recall feature that instantly brings the ball back to you, saving time and letting you focus more on improving rather than chasing the ball around.

Tip 3: Mastering Ball Control in Rematch

Teamwork is at the heart of Rematch, and a common challenge for new players is successfully catching a pass. Thankfully, there’s a dedicated button that makes your character automatically reach out to grab the ball when it comes near, making it much easier to receive passes. By default, this action is mapped to:

  • V on keyboard
  • Cross on PlayStation controller
  • A on Xbox controller

You can customize this control by heading into the System settings. Getting the hang of this feature early on will give you a big advantage over other beginners.

Tip 4: Faster Shots

Instead of using the shoot button (left click or controller shoot key), use the pass key:

  • Pass key is faster than shooting and skips the shoot animation.
  • Useful when your back is to the goal—makes shooting quicker and more surprising.
  • You can also use the pass key + right click + mouse wheel to chip the ball over the goalkeeper.
  • This method allows tricky wall passes or unpredictable lobs that the shoot button doesn’t offer.

Tip 5: Flick Over Defenders

You can flick the ball over defenders or even the goalkeeper:

  • If a defender comes at you, flick the ball over them.
  • Works well in 1 vs. 1 situations with the goalkeeper—just approach slowly and flick over.
  • Most defenders won’t jump to intercept, making it very effective.

Tip 6: Block the Goalkeeper

When the opponent’s goalkeeper has the ball:

  • Stand in front of them.
  • As soon as they begin the throw/shoot animation, jump.
  • This will redirect the ball.
  • It might bounce to your teammate or even into the goal directly, resulting in free goals.

And that’s it, 6 pro tips most people don’t know about that will help you easily rank up in Rematch.
