Players must encounter many of their own morality lessons in Avowed’s sprawling world, but few are more dramatic than in the “Dawntreader” side quest, which finds them at its core dealing with Oracle Sargamis. This is an individual consumed by a deadly zeal for bringing a malevolent deity back to life. This mission compels you to face the repercussions of blind faith and the dangers of scientific arrogance, presenting two different options: assisting Sargamis in his dangerous quest or stopping his potentially disastrous research. The decision you make will not only decide Sargamis’ destiny but also reward you with either a quick death or a mighty artifact.
Sargamis choice in Avowed
In Avowed, there’s this side quest called “Dawntreader” that kicks off when you chat with Ofrye down in the southern part of Paradis. Basically, you get tangled up with a character named Oracle Sargamis, who’s doing some… interesting experiments.
Helping Oracle Sargamis
Alright, so you’ve got the Splinter of Eothas and you’ve read Gjeda’s Journal, which means you know what’s really going on with Oracle Sargamis. You go to confront him, and he lays it all out: he’s trying to resurrect Eothas, this god who caused a massive tragedy, killing tons of people. He tries to justify killing the expedition team as a necessary sacrifice for his plan.
Now you’re at a crossroads: do you help this guy, or do you stop him?
- If you decide to help him:
- You put the relic in the statue like he says.
- Then, you pull the lever on his machine, but… nothing happens.
- He then asks you to sacrifice yourself, claiming the machine needs more “life essence.”
- If you actually do this, you just die. It’s a trap!
- He will tell you to stand under the machine, and give you a moment to decide.
- If you walk away, he will attack you.
- If you decide to stop him:
- You can fight him.
- If you have the Court Auger background you have a special dialog option that will convice him to leave. He will leave, but you do not get any special reward for this, and he escapes justice.
Killing Oracle Sargamis
Basically, if you want the best outcome in the “Dawntreader” quest, you should definitely take out Oracle Sargamis. Here’s why:
- Justice Served: He’s a murderer, plain and simple. Killing him holds him accountable for his terrible actions.
- Sweet Loot: You get “Last Day of Light,” a super powerful weapon that’ll make your life in Avowed much easier.
Here’s how to do it:
- You can just attack him outright after getting the Splinter of Eothas.
- Or, you can trick him into killing himself with his own machine.
- Let the quest progress until he asks you to sacrifice yourself.
- Then, use these dialogue options to turn the tables on him:
- “The chime of an unknown godlike wouldn’t interest Eothas. It has to be you.”
- “Eothas didn’t keep me alive for 600 years. It has to be you.”
- He’ll fall for it, stand under the machine, and you can activate it to finish him off.
- Don’t forget to loot his body for the “Last Day of Light” weapon!
