Avowed – All Shatterscarp Treasure Maps Location and Solution (Robe of the Arcane Cheater, Seafarer’s Boots, and Dead Man’s Mail)

Avowed’s Shatterscarp region, a harsh desert landscape of canyons and cliffs, hides more than just scorching sands. Scattered throughout this unforgiving terrain are treasure maps, each leading to valuable loot. These maps, however, offer cryptic clues, making the hunt for these hidden treasures a true test of exploration and puzzle-solving. This guide will walk you through the locations and solutions for all the Shatterscarp treasure maps, revealing the secrets behind the Robe of the Arcane Cheater (and the actual Robes of Surpassing Brilliance), the Seafarer’s Boots (Wavebinder Boots), and the Dead Man’s Mail (Necropants), ensuring you claim these powerful items for yourself.

All Shatterscarp Treasure Maps Location and Solution

Shatterscarp, a desert on the southern coast of the Living Lands in Avowed, is a harsh and unforgiving place. Think dry, rugged terrain shaped by ancient disasters and erosion. Imagine deep gullies, rocky canyons, and towering ocean cliffs giving way to inland dunes. It’s a tough environment, but hidden oases, fed by underground springs, offer surprising pockets of green. One of the first secrets players will uncover in Avowed involves treasure maps. It’s a classic formula: find a map, decipher the clues, locate the “X,” and claim your reward. But be warned – Avowed’s treasure maps offer some seriously tricky clues that can be difficult to crack without help.

Robe of the Arcane Cheater

Okay, so in the eastern part of the Deadfall Highlands, specifically Shatterscarp, there’s a trader named Ihaka at a place called The Thrifty Pig. You can buy a treasure map from him for 1,680 skeyt. The map is for something called the Robe of the Arcane Cheater, and it’s supposedly hidden by a student who cheated. The map has a picture of a pond with some interesting rock formations around it, and there’s an “X” marking a hole – that’s where you’re supposed to dig to find the robe.

The Robes of Surpassing Brilliance are a really good set of light armor. They naturally reduce damage taken by 5%, and on top of that, they provide another 46 points of damage reduction. They also have two special bonuses: Overseeing, which boosts area-of-effect damage by 15%, and Innate Talent, which increases your maximum essence by 40. This makes them perfect for magic users who rely on casting lots of spells in quick succession and need that extra essence.

Robe of the Arcane Cheater Location

Alright, so you’re hunting for this Robe of the Arcane Cheater. Head to the Ancient Lakebed in Shatterscarp. The quickest way there is to fast travel to the Ancient Lakebed South Beacon. From there, go northeast to the location shown on your map. You’ll come to a cliff overlooking a still pond, and there will probably be some enemies around. Don’t jump down to the water just yet. Instead, look for a ledge just below the cliff you’re on and drop down to that.

You should find a cave entrance there. Crawl through the cave, and you’ll find a glowing yellow chest. Inside, you’ll get the Robes of Surpassing Brilliance (which I guess is the actual treasure, not the Robe of the Arcane Cheater), plus some Silver Fenning, Stelgaer Leather, and Primal Water. Once you grab the robe, the Robe of the Arcane Cheater treasure map quest will be marked as complete.

Seafarer’s Boots

Okay, so to find the map for the Seafarer’s Boots, head to Shatterscarp. Go to the east of the entrance to Thirdborn and drop down from the cliff there. You should find a small camp with an NPC named Loato. Check the blanket on the ground – that’s where the Seafarer’s Boots treasure map is. The map itself just has a drawing of a pond with reddish water, surrounded by some rock formations and these kind of spiky trees. That’s all you have to go on to find the boots!

These boots, called Wavebinder Boots, are pretty special. They give you a +15 boost to your maximum essence, which is great for magic users. They also have a perk called Sure Footing, which makes it so when you get hit, you don’t stagger or flinch as much. So, they’re a good choice if you’re playing a magic-focused character and want that extra essence.

Seafarer’s Boots Location

So, you’re looking for the Seafarer’s Boots. Go to the Deadfall Highlands in the northwest part of Shatterscarp, specifically the Deadfall Highlands Party Camp. From there, head northwest towards the pond shown on the map. You’ll know you’re in the right spot when you see a pond with red water and a bunch of spiders crawling around. On the east side of the pond, there’s like an arm of land sticking out eastward, going under a natural rock bridge.

The water flows under this bridge. Follow the water into a cave – it’ll be full of cobwebs and mushrooms. Look to your left, and you should see a small alcove. Inside, there’s a skeleton wearing armor. Loot the skeleton, and you’ll get the Wavebinder Boots (which are probably what you’re actually after), some Golden Scelling, Primal Water, and a regular old Common Sword.

Dead Man’s Mail

Okay, so in Shatterscarp, right in the middle of the Great Sand Sea, there’s a small, abandoned campsite. If you check it out and interact with the skeleton in one of the tents, you’ll find the Dead Man’s Mail treasure map. The map has a picture of some ruins painted on it, and there’s an “X” marking a balcony – that’s where you’re supposed to look for the treasure.

The Necropants are a really good piece of medium armor. They naturally reduce damage by 15%, and also give you another 47 points of damage reduction. They have two perks: Spectral Slave, which summons a ghost to fight alongside you, and Poison-Proofed, which makes you 30% more resistant to poison. If you combine the Necropants with the Revenant Bell Collar (you can get that in the Emerald Stair by making a deal with Elia to sell her your corpse when you die), you’ll unlock a special achievement called “Play Dead”.

Dead Man’s Mail Location

Alright, so you’re hunting for the Dead Man’s Mail. Fast travel to Tago’s Tower Beacon in the Shark’s Teeth area of Shatterscarp. With the tower on your left, go straight ahead, then turn right. Look to your left, and you should see a broken pillar that you can use to climb up to a balcony. Climb up the pillar and keep going around the corner.

You’ll find an abandoned camp there. On the left side of the camp, there’s a glowing yellow chest. You’ll need three lockpicks to open it. Inside, you’ll find the Necropants (which are what you’re actually looking for), a Moonstone, some Admeth’s Wyrt, Stelgaer Leather, a Petrified Wood Branch, and a health potion. Grabbing the Necropants completes the Dead Man’s Mail treasure map quest.
