An Unnatural Omen Quest Guide – Where Winds Meet

An Unnatural Omen is a side quest in Where Winds Meet that has exploration, puzzles, and combat. Set in the Kaifeng region, this quest takes you deep into ancient chambers, having Hexagram and constellation puzzles, and slowly uncovers the past of Jin Zhongyuan. If you’re stuck on where to begin or how to solve the many puzzles along the way, this guide will walk you through every step, so you can complete the quest and claim all the rewards.

How to Start the Unnatural Omen Quest

To unlock An Unnatural Omen, you’ll need to start with Jianghu Legacy 08 from the Kaifeng Exploration menu. First, head to Roaring Sands in the Kaifeng region and speak to the Wayfarer there. Talking to them unlocks the quest.

An Unnatural Omen Quest Guide

First, make your way to Ethereal Mountain in Roaring Sands. From there, head toward Skyreach Terrace and use the stairs near the Skyreach Terrace Boundary Stone to get up. When you arrive at the terrace, you’ll be ambushed by Xuanyuan Cult members. Once the fight is over, talk to Suan Sanchun, the man you’ll find crying nearby. After speaking with him, he’ll give you your next lead and point you toward the “Azure Dragon” clue.

Azure Dragon statue Puzzle

Near the stairs you used to get up to the terrace, you’ll find the North Star Bagua Platform. Go ahead and interact with it. Next, turn the Azure Dragon statue so it’s facing east. Once the statue is in place, step onto the yin-yang slab right beneath it. This will activate the mechanism and send the elevator down.

Tattered Eight Trigrams Puzzle

Once you reach the underground chamber, walk up the steps and check the corpse sitting in front of you. Interacting with it gives you the Tattered Eight Trigrams clue. After that, turn around, and you’ll notice a large sealed door with a Bagua Wheel Platform in front of it. To open the door, rotate the two rings on the dial and match the symbols based on the clue you just picked up. When the symbols line up correctly, the door will unlock. Step inside and activate the Hero’s Tomb to continue.

Ethereal Chamber

Start by using the lever inside the elevator to go down. Partway through the descent, the elevator will stop, and you’ll be forced into a fight with three Xuanyuan Cult members. Once they’re dealt with, open the chest nearby, then pull the lever again to continue all the way down. At the bottom, activate the next Hero’s Tomb, then head through the doors ahead.

Just outside, you’ll run into the Xuanyuan Moon Minister. Take him out first, then activate the Ethereal Chamber Boundary Stone. After that, you’ll face three waves of Xuanyuan Cult members, with the Xuanyuan Luminarch appearing at the end.

When an astral barrier goes up during the fight, look above you for a floating Moon Disk and shoot it with fire arrows to bring the barrier down. In the Luminarch fight, keep targeting his Moon Disk to drain his Qi bar, which will give you a chance to land an Execute. Once the battle is over, head to the central pavilion and speak with Jin Zhongyuan to wrap things up.

Hexagram Enclosure Puzzle

After speaking with Jin Zhongyuan, he’ll tell you about three Enclosures nearby, each of which hides valuable treasures. To reach them, walk behind him and activate the North Star Bagua Platform. Once it’s active, you’ll be asked to solve a series of puzzles. You’ll also pick up a clue called the Tattered Four Symbols Chart. This chart shows the four beasts you’ll see on the ceiling panels: the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise.

White Tiger Enclosure

For this Hexagram, the solution is pretty straightforward. Rotate the ceiling panels until the White Tiger lines up with the Enclosure doors. When it’s set correctly, the symbol at the top of the door will start glowing. Once that happens, the doors will open, so go ahead and step inside. Inside the Enclosure, you’ll find a constellation puzzle on the floor. Use the North Star Bagua Platform to rotate the three rings until the constellations connect with each other.

After finishing the puzzle, you’ll see a memory from Jin Zhongyuan’s past. Walk up to the kneeling figure and choose between “Regret” or “Do Not Regret.” Don’t worry about picking the “right” option, as neither choice affects the quest.

When this scene ends, you’ll receive the North Star Orb: Heavenly Market. Before you leave the Enclosure, make sure to open the chest on the right side for extra rewards. Once you’re done, return to the pavilion and hand the orb over to Jin Zhongyuan.

Black Tortoise Enclosure

The Black Tortoise panel is already in the correct position. Instead, focus on the platforms on the ground. Rotate them until you spot the one with five blue streaks, where the long streak in the middle is surrounded by two shorter streaks above and below.

Once that’s done, head inside the Enclosure. You’ll come across another constellation puzzle. Use the North Star Bagua Platform to rotate the rings until the constellations line up and connect. After solving it, you’ll be shown another memory from the past. This time, you’ll be asked to choose between “Villain” or “Good.” Just like before, your choice doesn’t affect the outcome, so pick whichever you prefer.

When the scene ends, you’ll receive the North Star Orb: Supreme Palace. Before leaving, you can open the chest near the stairs, but be ready for a surprise attack from a Xuanyuan Moon Minister. Once everything is clear, head back and give the orb to Jin Zhongyuan.

Vermilion Bird Enclosure

For the final Hexagram, start by rotating the ceiling panels until you find and line up the Vermilion Bird. After that, switch your attention to the ground platforms and rotate them until you see the symbol with two short streaks above it.

Head inside the Enclosure and you’ll face the third constellation puzzle. This one is a bit more challenging because turning one ring also moves the others. A good approach is to start with the outermost ring, since it isn’t affected by the inner rings. Once that’s set, you can adjust the inner rings more easily.

After solving the puzzle, you’ll witness the final memory. Walk up to Jin Zhongyuan’s past self, who is holding a sword, and choose whether to kill or spare the man. No matter what you pick, you’ll receive the North Star Orb: Purple Star. Before leaving the Enclosure, don’t forget to open the chest inside for extra rewards. When you’re done, return to Jin Zhongyuan to finish this part of the quest.

Completing the Quest

When you return for the third time, Jin Zhongyuan is overtaken by his inner demon, and the fight starts right away. To wrap up the quest, just follow the quest marker until you reach a passage that leads back up to the surface. As you make your way there, be careful around the gaps in the path, since you can’t use a double jump inside this chamber.

Once you’re out, the quest is complete, and you’ll be rewarded with Spring’s Return, Inner Way Notes (Custom Chest x5), and Medicinal Tales, along with Level 3 Ebon Iron, Echo Jade, and an increase in Kaifeng Exploration progress. On top of that, you’ll earn Enlightenment Points, character experience, and coins.
