Your combat approach in Ghost of Yotei relies on your choice of weapons, and in the game, you’re free to adapt to different enemies and combine for different situations. Atsu, the protagonist, has access to various different melee, range, and quickfire weapons, each with their own unique sort of loadout and strengths. This guide lists every weapon available, how to acquire them, and the ways you can most effectively use them in the game.
All Weapons Locations and Their Types
Here’s a list of all the weapons, their locations, and types in Ghost of Yotei:
Katana (Melee Weapon)

The Katana is a melee weapon and Atsu’s starting weaponry. It’s known for its generic curved, single-edged design. The Katana is one of several versatile blades that can be used effectively in a variety of combat situations. The fighting technique is built on smooth, controlled slashing, and is particularly well-suited when the enemy is carrying a sword.
Dual Katanas (Melee Weapon)

Dual Katanas are a melee weapon you receive after completing The Way of the Dual Katana quest and acquiring the style from Master Hanbei.

Wielding two Katanas at once also provides Atsu with multiple angles of attack, dealing furious bursts of strikes to his enemy. This weapon combination can even rival spear enemies and is full of moves that emphasize strong sweeping slashes that end the fight quickly.
Odachi (Melee Weapon)

This melee weapon is a two-handed weapon that can be obtained from the Saito Brothers quest and that can be earned through training with Master Yoshida.

The Odachi is a very large katana that can inflict very high damage on larger targets and is often a desired weapon since it deals some really heavy damage quickly with only a few swinging strikes focused mainly on heavy sweeping attacks.
Yari (Melee Weapon)

Upon completion of the Oni questline and defeating the Yari Master, you will receive the Yari, a more traditional straight-headed spear.

Its highlights include a longer reach and the ability to deal with sickle-wielding opponents. The moveset includes fast sweeps, deadly pierces, and mobility buffs to further enhance Atsu’s battlefield control abilities.
Kusarigama (Melee Weapon)

Completion of the Kitsune questline and defeating the Nine Tails will grant players access to the Kusarigama, a sickle attached to a weighted chain. The Kusarigama is a versatile weapon that has a lot of benefits when approaching enemies in stealth, and when disarming or physically disabling an enemy equipped with a shield.

The combat techniques with the Kusarigama are made up of hooks, quick takedowns, and wide sweeping swings which lead to attacks from unconventional angles keeping the enemy off balance.
Kunai (Quickfire Weapon)

The Kunai is a small, throwable blade first acquired during the Burning of Castle Ishikari quest and bought from Hana the Kunai Artisan.

The Kunai is quick and exact in its use; it is best used to disrupt an enemy’s attack, stagger an opponent, and create openings for a follow-up strike.
Smoke Bomb (Quickfire Weapon)

Smoke Bombs are acquired during the Kitsune questline from Oyuki. When thrown, these bombs emit a cloud of smoke upon striking the ground, effectively hiding Atsu’s position, either to disengage and escape, or to reposition during a fight.
Metsubushi (Quickfire Weapon)

The Metsubushi is acquired by defeating Crow Genzo. This quickfire weapon uses blinding powder to incapacitate and disorient enemies, giving Atsu a significant tactical advantage in confrontations.
Tanzutsu (Quickfire Weapon)

The Tanzutsu is a type of small firearm that is obtained through the Saito Brothers questline in Guns and Consequences. It can do fast burst damage and is effective when you need to attack quickly. When using the Tanzutsu you will need to reload after each shot, so timing will be important.
Oni Flame (Quickfire Weapon)

Obtained from Mad Goro at the end of the Twin Wolves, Twin Heart mission in the Oni questline, the Oni Flame allows Atsu to coat her melee weapon with fire. This provides elemental damage to her attacks, igniting enemies and adding enhancements to her offensive capabilities.
Scorch Bomb (Quickfire Weapon)

Scorch Bombs are learned from Ina during the Bomb Maker questline. These explosive devices deal area damage, making them perfect for taking out groups of enemies or creating chaos on the battlefield.
Blind Bomb (Quickfire Weapon)

Blind Bombs are a quickfire weapon that you get during the Fighting Fire with Fire questline. After getting the Scorch Bomb from Ina, you’ll get a chance to acquire the Blind Bomb from her if you decide to help her further.

Functionally similar to flashbangs, Blind Bombs disorient and temporarily blind enemies, giving Atsu opportunities to attack or escape safely.
Hankyu (Ranged Weapon)

The Hankyu is a ranged weapon purchased from Ran the Bowyer during Vengeful Mercenary. This half-bow is easy to maneuver, allowing for rapid arrow shots, though it sacrifices range and accuracy compared to heavier bows.
Yumi (Ranged Weapon)

The Yumi is a heavy longbow also obtained from Ran the Bowyer. Known for its sniping potential, it allows Atsu to eliminate priority targets from afar. However, aiming and shooting takes longer, requiring patience and precision.
Tanegashima Matchlock (Ranged Weapon)

The Tanegashima Matchlock is a flint-operated gun unlocked during the Saito Brothers questline in The Storm Breaks. It delivers high burst damage and can pierce armor, though it has a slower reload speed and requires maintenance and expensive ammunition, making it a powerful but strategic weapon.
Note: When choosing the right weapon in Ghost of Yotei, consider the enemy type and combat situation. For melee, use the Katana for general fights, the Odachi for large foes, and the Kusarigama against shielded enemies. For ranged combat, the Hankyu is good for quick close-range attacks, the Yumi for sniping, and the Tanegashima Matchlock for heavy damage. Quickfire weapons are useful for staggering, blinding, or hitting groups and work best when paired with melee attacks.
