Chapter 16 of Doom: The Dark Ages takes you deep into the mysterious Kar’Thul Marshes. This level has secret areas, along with a hidden collectible toy and a ruby. Since the map is open-world, you’re free to explore and tackle the Gore Portals in any order. In this guide, we’ll walk you through where to go and what to do so you don’t miss a single collectible.
All Secret Areas & Toys in Chapter 16
Chapter 16 of Doom: The Dark Ages has 5 secret areas and a collectible toy. Since the level is open-world, you can go to the Gore Portals in any order you like.

1. Secret Area – Collectible Area
Right at the start of the mission, head to the right and jump onto a small platform. Then turn left and look through the wall, you’ll see a blue eye. Throw your shield at it to open the gate near where the first enemies spawn. You need to move to the right side after backtracking to find the secret area and codex entry.
2. Secret Area – Collectible Area
Now make your way to the far right side of the map. Go through the gate and follow the path. After you complete a full loop, turn around and keep going, you’ll find the secret area just ahead.
3. Secret Area – Ruby – Collectible Toy
Jump into the pool and dive down. You’ll land back on a platform, which now gives you access to the secret area and the ruby. After leaving that area, follow the path and climb up the wall on your right. You’ll find a pressure plate; stand on it to open a gate across from you, marked with a red chain. Hit the red chain with your shield. This unlocks the door to the toy in the area just below.
4. Secret Area – Collectible Area
Drop down into the cave. You’ll find three gold pieces on the right side. Keep going along that same path to reach another wolf statue.
5. Secret Area – Collectible Area
Eventually, you’ll enter a rotating room. To rotate it, throw your shield at the blue eye directly in front of you. Now, keep rotating the room until the water section moves to the right side and there’s a single block in the center. Jump onto that block, and rotate the room again, make sure you stay on the block as it moves. Once it’s in place, hit the green statue with your shield, jump over to the secret area, and grab the gold.
