The quest “Fiddling with Fulgurating Fulminations” in The Outer Worlds 2 takes you across Praetor to repair and recalibrate several lightning towers scattered around the region. It all starts when you meet Exemplar Simon at the Grounding Tower, who explains the importance of fixing these towers to restore stability to the area. This guide will tell you the locations of all the lightning rod towers in the area.
All Lightning Rod Tower (Fiddling with Fulgurating Fulminations)
If you start by heading to the Grounding Tower, you will be told to meet Exemplar Simon. He will fill you in on what’s going on with the lightning towers across the region. The Grounding Tower is located just south of the landing pad where you first arrive in Praetor. Take the lift down and head straight south to find it. Simon is at the top of the tower, which got stuck because of constant lightning storms.
Once you make it to the top, Simon will talk about how poorly the Protectorate maintained the lightning towers, but he will also point out their one smart idea, using the towers’ power for something greater. Your goal is to get all of these towers back online.
After you’ve recalibrated every lightning tower, return to Simon at the Grounding Tower. He will tell you he’s managed to convert the storm’s energy into a handheld weapon called the Storm Grenade, and he will even give you the recipe so you can craft one yourself.
Northeast Tower
You will find the Northeast Tower just north of the landing pad. When you first step inside, you will notice the repair parts are missing. That’s because they’re actually over at the Scrapper Camp, located even further northeast. Head there, grab the replacement parts from the camp’s far corner, then return to the tower. Once you’ve installed the parts, just recalibrate the system at the terminal to get it running again.
Northwest Tower
You can find the Northwest Lightning Tower just south of the Central Control area. The place is crawling with Verachnids, so be ready for a fight. Once you’ve cleared them out, head over to the tower and recalibrate it to finish the job.
Central Tower
You will find the Central Lightning Tower on the west side of the blockade, just a bit south of it. Use the tall grass for cover and quietly take out any enemies still wandering around. To get inside the tower, you can either drop in from above or use your Lockpick skill to open it. Once you recalibrate the tower, a few Raptidons will show up, so be ready for another fight.
Southwest Tower
The Southwest Lightning Tower is located halfway between Auntie’s Chemical Factory and the nearby area. To get inside, start by activating the rift switch near the tower’s door, then the one outside. This will make the gate and some containers appear, which you can use to climb over the fence and drop down through the roof into the tower.
Southeast Tower
You can find the Southeast Lightning Tower right next to the Grounding Tower. When you arrive, you will run into a swarm of Mantiwasps. As you take them out, more will keep coming from the hives on the wall. Just keep fighting until they stop spawning. Once the area’s clear, head inside the tower and recalibrate it.
