In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, players are able to undertake the side quest “A Big Ol’ Bunnelby,” which takes place after joining forces with Emma on her investigations. Travelle, a resident of Lumiose City, has filed a report about a gigantic Bunnelby that is loose in the streets, and it’s your job to find it, battle against the Alpha Pokémon, and bring peace before it can do any harm.
How to Begin the Quest

Travelle feels that this massive Bunnelby will become problematic as it’s freely roaming outside of the Wild Zones. Talk to him and he will invite you along to the alleyway where he had seen the Pokémon before it vanished.

In order to easily locate him, activate Guidance Mode for the mission. This sets a waypoint on your map that leads to Travelle’s position. If you didn’t turn it on immediately, you can still activate it later by:
- Opening your map screen.
- Pressing X to view all active missions.
- Switching to the Side Missions tab with R.
- Selecting “A Big Ol’ Bunnelby” and pressing A to activate guidance.
Follow the on-screen marker to reach Travelle. Once you talk to him again, a battle with the oversized Bunnelby will automatically begin.
Facing the Giant Bunnelby

The Bunnelby you encounter here is an Alpha Pokémon, so it has far more HP than a regular one. Despite being only Level 10, it can quickly knock out your entire team if you’re not careful. It also targets the trainer directly—so whenever it charges at you, press Y to dodge. If you take too many hits yourself, you’ll white out and be sent back to the Pokémon Center.
Bunnelby’s a Normal-type Pokémon, leaving it vulnerable to Fighting moves but immune to Ghost attacks. Its defensive stats are evenly balanced between physical and special, so either offensive type works fine. The Alpha only knows Earth Power, Leer, and Tackle. Because of this, using a Flying-type Pokémon makes the fight much easier, since it avoids Earth Power and limits Bunnelby’s attacks to Tackle only.
You’re free to switch between your Pokémon during the fight whenever you need to. Use Potions or Super Potions to stay healed, but note that you can only use one item at a time and must wait for a short cooldown before using another.
If your entire team faints, you’ll respawn at the Pokémon Center and can continue the quest later without losing progress.
Catching the Alpha
Once the Alpha Bunnelby’s health drops low, the odds of capturing it rise sharply. Throw a Poké Ball at this point for a strong chance to catch it.
Completing the battle wraps up the “A Big Ol’ Bunnelby” mission, putting an end to Travelle’s concerns and earning you a new Alpha Bunnelby for your collection.
