How to Change Weapons in MH Wilds

Adaptability is the key to survival in Monster Hunter Wilds. You’re either confronting a fast, nimble hunter or a colossal monster, and no matter which it is, the right tool for the job makes all the difference. What that means is mastering the weapon switching, pre- and during-hunt. This guide will take you through the easy steps of configuring your loadout at camp and easily switching weapons during a hunt with your trusty Seikert, so you’re always ready for whatever challenges await.

How to set weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds

Before starting a hunt in Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll need to set your weapon loadout at any camp:

  1. Enter the tent and go to the Equipment Menu.
  2. Select Change Equipment, this will show your current weapons and armor.
  3. Pick either your primary or secondary weapon to bring up a list of all available options.
  4. Choose the two weapons you want to take with you.
  5. Don’t forget: your primary weapon is the one you’ll start the hunt with, so set it carefully!

How to Change Weapons

In Monster Hunter Wilds, as long as you have a weapon equipped to your mount, Seikret, you can swap to it anytime while you’re out in the field, no matter which region you’re in. If Seikret isn’t already with you, you can call it to your location whenever you need.

To change weapons mid-hunt in Monster Hunter Wilds:

  1. Call your Seikret.
  2. Press “X” on PC or Right D-Pad on Console to swap your current weapon with the one in your sheath.

Keep in mind:

  • Your character will automatically mount the Seikret when you switch weapons.
  • It’s best to avoid swapping while under attack, as the animation could leave you vulnerable.

It’s a smart move to carry both a melee and a ranged weapon. This way, you can easily switch between close combat and long-distance attacks depending on the situation. It also lets you make the most of your surroundings, even if you mainly prefer melee combat.
