Exploration becomes much easier in Subnautica 2 once you stop swimming at starter speed. While the basic fins are enough to survive the early game, they will start feeling sluggish once you start exploring larger biomes, escaping predators or rushing back to oxygen refills. And that’s where the Improved Fins come in, offering a noticeable boost to underwater movement compared to the basic fins. This guide shows you how to get the improved fins, where to find the fragments and what you need to craft them once unlocked.
Unlocking Improved Fins Blueprint
To unlock the blueprint of Improved Fins, you need to scan 3 fragments of these fins. And the improved fins are available after you progress the story and reach the Alien Base.
Improved Fins Fragment 1

To get the first fragment, head below from the base as shown in the above image. You’ll come across an expedition camp site where you can find the first fragment that you need to scan.
Improved Fins Fragment 2

To get the 2nd fragment, head south 165° from the first fragment and look for another expedition site as shown in the above first image, you’ll find the second fragment at this expedition site.
Improved Fins Fragment 3

The 3rd fragment can be found inside a broken container that is located just below the second fragment expedition site. Scanning all 3 fragments will unlock the blueprint of Improved Fins.
Crafting Improved Fins

To craft the improved fins, you’re going to need the basic fins, fiber mesh and conduit crystal. To get the conduit crystal resource, you need to explore deep >250m and towards east. The conduit crystal is dark green and looks like a tree branch, but beware of creatures that hunt you below this level.
