How to Get Tar in Windrose

Tar is one of those materials in Windrose that is very useful once you move from the early stages of the game. It’s not something you will come across right away, but once you unlock it, it provides stronger crafting options and better upgrades. From improving your equipment to preparing for late-game builds, tar plays an important role in progression. In this guide, we will show you where to find tar and how to use it once you have it.

    How to Get Tar

You will need to head into the Cursed Swamp region. This area unlocks after you progress through the main story and defeat the Foothills boss. Once that’s done, you will usually receive a quest that points you straight to your first Cursed Swamp. Go to the Swamp Biome and then look around for trees known as Tar Wood trees, which are different from normal trees. They can be found all over the swamp area. In order to cut down these trees, you will need an Iron Axe. When you chop down Tar Wood trees, you will start collecting Tar.

    How to Use Tar

Tar is a thick, sticky material which is primarily applied to coating and fortification of items, especially when you start working on more advanced crafting. Right after acquiring your first piece of tar, you will be able to unlock several new crafting discoveries, such as Tarred Fabric and Tarred Planks.

These tar-based materials become important as you move further into the game. In particular, they will help you craft new, more resistant items out of Tarred Fabric and Planks, combined with other resources such as Fabric Arborum and Hide Arborum. In simple terms, once you start gathering tar, you’re stepping into the next tier of crafting, where your gear and structures become much more reliable and better suited for late-game progression.
