How to Start Light Beam Puzzle
To start your adventure, head north toward the castle. You’ll see a large statue in the town square. Choose either the left or right path to reach the castle area. Remember, you’ll need to spend 1750 Essence to unlock the gates and enter the castle.
Once you’re inside the castle, go through either the left or right door. You’ll find a giant cannonball, but it’s not aimed at the castle door. To fire the cannon at the door, you’ll need to rotate a wheel on the left side of the cannon. Be careful, as zombies will attack while you’re adjusting the cannon. Fight them off and keep rotating the wheel until the cannon is pointed at the door. After you’ve aimed the cannon, go to the back of it and fire. The cannonball will smash through the locked castle door, costing you about 500 Essence.
To solve the light beam puzzle in Citadelle des Morts, start in the Dining Hall. First, go through the main castle entrance and take the left path down the center stairs. Keep going downwards into the Undercroft. You’ll need to purchase a door to enter the Oubliette Room. Once inside, break the locks on the cargo container. Be ready for a tough fight against the Doppelghast that emerges from it.
After defeating the Doppelghast and collecting the Blood Aetherium Crystal, it drops its head to the Undercroft Stairways. There, you’ll find the cargo container with a red portal. Use the crystal to activate it and turn it into a Pack-a-Punch machine. You can now upgrade your weapons. Upgrading to the first tier costs 5,000 Essence, the second tier costs 15,000 Essence, and the third tier costs a hefty 30,000 Essence. Upgrade one of your weapons with this machine.
Next, go find Krafft in the Dungeons. To get there, continue through the Undercroft and purchase the second door. You’ll find Krafft imprisoned in a cell near the curved wall. You can now access the Dining Hall and start working on the Light Beam puzzle. Head there next.
How to Solve Light Beam Puzzle
Locate the First Orb:
- Look for a red glowing orb on the walls of the Dining Hall.
- Shoot the orb until it emits a bright, focused beam of red light.
Follow the Beam to the Second Orb:
- The focused beam will fall on another orb on the opposite wall of the Dining Hall.
- Shoot the second orb until it emits a focused red light.
Activate the Third Orb:
- The second orb’s light will fall on an orb above the Knight statue.
- Shoot this third orb until it emits a focused red light.
Activate the Fourth Orb in the Lab:
- The third orb’s light will direct you to the orb inside the lab.
- Shoot the fourth orb until its light falls on the orb on an adjacent wall.
Activate the Fifth Orb:
- Shoot the fifth orb until its focused light highlights a bust on a table.
Claim the Paladin’s Brooch:
- Interact with the bust to obtain the Paladin’s Brooch.
Stay Alert:
- Zombies may ambush you during this process, so be vigilant and ready to defend yourself.
Tip:
- If you can’t find the next orb, follow the focused red light emitted by the previous orb to locate it.
Collecting the Paladin’s Brooch will allow you to complete the Easter Egg quest of gathering one of the four ritual items in Citadelle des Morts to open four golden chests. To get the golden chest for the Paladin’s artifact return to the Dining Hall to see a glowing altar on the ground. Place the Paladin’s Brooch in the glowing altar and kill nearby enemies to charge it. After it is charged, a golden chest will spawn.
