How to get the Esoteric Revival in Where Winds Meet

If you’re trying to unlock the Esoteric Revival in Where Winds Meet, you’ll need to take down one of the tougher early World Bosses in the game, the Sleeping Daoist. Esoteric Revival Tome in hand, your Panacea Fan becomes much stronger, making your revives far more effective in tough battles. This guide walks you through where to find him, how to beat him in both phases, and what rewards you’ll get for defeating him.

How to get the Esoteric Revival

First, find the Sundara Land Wayfarer and talk to him. This will unlock the Sundara Land map, which you’ll need for the rest of the hunt. According to the second clue, some villagers claim they saw a Daoist riding a donkey somewhere along the Path of Karma in Jadebrook Mountain. It’s just a rumour, but it gives you a general direction to check. Finally, for the last part, you’ll have to fight the Sleeping Daoist in Jadebrook Mountain. Defeat him, and you’ll earn the Esoteric Revival tome. The nearest boundary stone to his location is the Path of Karma, so use that as your starting point.

How to beat Sleeping Daoist

Try using Cloud Steps whenever you need to quickly close the distance between you and the boss. It makes getting in and out much easier. It also helps to carry a few ranged options, because fighting him only with melee can be really tough. And be ready to dodge those close-range attacks. They hit extremely hard, so avoiding them is more important than trying to block or parry damage.

Phase 1

In the first phase of the fight, the Sleeping Daoist mainly mixes physical hits with some ranged attacks.

  • You’ll see him and his donkey slam the ground together, sending out shockwaves you’ll need to dodge.
  • He can also pull rocks out of the ground and throw them at you one after another, so keep moving sideways.
  • Sometimes he spins toward you with a fast, tracking slash, which you’ll have to dodge at just the right moment. He also likes to back away while firing a stream of projectiles to push you back.
  • And watch out for the donkey, its front leg slam is dangerous, but the real threat is the hind leg kick. This one glows yellow, meaning you cannot block or parry it; you have to dodge it or you’ll take a huge hit.

Phase 2

Once you drain his health bar the first time, he shifts into a much tougher second phase. Everything he did before becomes stronger, bigger shockwaves, and more projectiles.

  • On top of that, he adds new tricks. One of them is summoning wooden pillars from the ground, which can box you in if you’re not paying attention.
  • He can also disappear and spawn several copies of himself; only the glowing one is real, so attacking the wrong clone just wastes time and leaves you open.
  • His most dangerous new move is the Stampede, where he floats into the air and summons a herd of ghostly donkeys that charge across the arena in set patterns. If you get caught in their path, they hit incredibly hard, so staying aware of their movement is key.

The first time you defeat the Sleeping Daoist, the game rewards you with some nice goodies. You’ll get an Esoteric Revival Tome, a few Medicinal Tales, along with Echo Jade and Qinghe Exploration points to help with your progression. You also earn Character EXP and Zhou Coins, making the fight well worth the effort.
