If you want the Mighty Wolf Rider achievement in Where Winds Meet, you’ll be facing one of the game’s more aggressive early bosses: the Wolf Maiden. She’s fast, unpredictable, so the encounter can be difficult for the first time around. In this guide, we will help you to find her, understand her moves, and defeat her.
How to Get the Mighty Wolf Rider Achievement

The Mighty Wolf Rider achievement is unlocked simply by defeating the Wolf Maiden. There’s no timer or special condition; you just need to beat her once. As soon as you win the fight for the first time, the trophy pops.
You’ll find the Wolf Maiden along the eastern side of Desperation Ridge, right at the southern edge of the Kaifeng region. Just remember, she only appears at night. Before heading over, change your in-game time to at least Xu (around 7 PM) so she actually shows up when you enter her arena.
How to Defeat the Wolf Maiden

If you want to take on the Wolf Maiden, bring Yuan Jin’gang with you. His bow is incredibly useful in this fight. He can stagger her from a distance and deal strong Qi damage, which often interrupts her long combos. As long as you keep her attention on you, he’ll stay safe and keep firing shots that make the battle much easier.
- When you step into her lair, you’ll see Wolf Maiden on a tree, and her wolves will howl to signal the start of the fight. They’ll immediately leap down and charge at you. Their main move is a fast jump attack, which you can parry to take them out quickly.
- Once the wolves are gone, Wolf Maiden will roar and launch herself straight at you. This attack always starts with a golden flash, so sprint sideways to avoid it.
- She also has a long 9-hit combo. Each strike lands about a second apart, but the final hit comes with a slight delay. You can parry the whole combo, just be ready for that slower final swing.
- Another move you’ll see is her leaping attack, where she licks her blade before lunging. The jump comes roughly a second after the animation ends, and it’s one of the easier attacks to parry.
- Her red glowing attack is a bit trickier. She’ll lunge, kick you, then try a follow-up strike. If you parry the first two hits, she’ll go for a third one. It’s safer to dodge that last hit instead of trying to block it.
- She also uses a simple 4-hit combo that’s pretty easy to parry.
- Sometimes she’ll glow gold again and perform a leaping strike you cannot parry or dodge immediately when she jumps.
- And if you back away too much, she’ll throw three knives at you in quick succession. Either dodge or parry them to stay safe and get back in control of the fight.
After she’s on the ground, stick close to her. Staying near makes it much easier to parry her regular attacks and deplete her Qi bar. Keep an eye out for her red attack; it’s the perfect chance to parry and land a counter. But if she goes for that fast yellow pounce, dodge it since you can’t block it. And if she starts overwhelming you, back off, heal up, and then go right back in to keep the pressure on.
