In Episode 4 of Dispatch, you will need to recruit a hero to join your team: Phenomaman or Waterboy. This choice will influence your team’s performance on missions, as each hero has different strengths, weaknesses, and synergies. Choosing the correct hero will allow you to have an easier time dispatching your team, depending whether you want immediate power or support for your team in the long run.
Who Stays on the Team?

After Episode 3, one of your team members leaves; to complicate matters even further, the hero seemingly closest to the one you lost will also leave during the next shift. It leaves you a bit stretched on your roster and makes it easy to miss calls. At one point, Robert heads to the break room where you can interact with Waterboy or choose to share a silly moment with Flambae. Afterwards, Blond Blazer will ask you to select a hero to actually join the team, one which you will have in your lineup for the rest of the game, so be careful while making your selection. You can save and try both options if you want to see how one goes vs the other.
Picking Waterboy

If you choose Waterboy, a humorous shower scene unfolds as he has a difficult time cleaning off the spaghetti that Flambae previously threw at him. After the shower scene, Blond Blazer introduces him to the team, but the majority of the team still makes fun of Waterboy. Eventually, once the second starts, you will be able to assign Waterboy to calls, keeping in mind his low starting stats.
Strengths
- Stats: Waterboy has the weakest initial stats, with Intellect and Mobility at 2. He works best when paired with a strong teammate rather than going solo.
- Power: He automatically assigns himself to calls if left unused, though you can only override this once. His highest stat gains a +1 bonus, which can improve performance when paired with another hero and is especially useful during training events, where it can rise to +3. He also has some support abilities that can heal allies.
- Synergy: Like Phenomaman, his best partner depends on who you removed earlier: either Punch-Up or Malevola.
Interactions
Waterboy starts off as less reliable, but over time, he becomes a valuable support character. Conversations at the end of the episode mirror those with Phenomaman, allowing you to increase your relationship with him for future missions.
Picking Phenomaman

When you pick Phenomaman, your first encounter is in the showers. He thanks you for giving him another chance, and the moment is marked with a tight hug. Once introduced to the team by Blond Blazer, the other members are less than enthusiastic because of the struggles Phenomaman is currently facing. Despite this, he is ready for action during the second shift.
Strengths
- Stats: Phenomaman comes with high starting stats in Combat, Mobility, and Vigor. He excels on most missions and can be upgraded further to improve performance.
- Synergy: Who he works best with depends on who you let go in Episode 3. If Coupe was removed, Punch-Up pairs well; if Sonar was removed, Malevola is the ideal partner.
- Power: He can be redeployed very quickly with only a 2-second cooldown. However, failing missions can put him in a Depressed state, drastically increasing his downtime to 45 seconds.
Interactions
At the end of the episode, a conversation with Phenomaman lets you learn a bit about his feelings toward Blond Blazer. You can also influence your relationship with him slightly, though these interactions won’t significantly change the story.
Bottom Line
- Waterboy begins weak and needs careful pairing but develops into a supportive team member over time, particularly when used in training or paired with stronger heroes.
- Phenomaman is a strong, front-line hero with excellent stats and quick redeployment but can become a liability if missions are missed.
The choice depends on whether you prefer immediate strength or gradual support growth. Either way, your decision shapes who will be on your team for the rest of Dispatch.
