The Armor of the Undying is a powerful and rare body armor in Ghost of Yotei. It carries a mysterious curse but rewards players who fight skillfully. To get this armor, you’ll have to finish the quest “The Undying Samurai,” which requires gathering four wind chimes within Ishikari Plain and killing the mythical Undying Samurai in his hideout. This guide will take you through each phase of the quest so that you can obtain the armor.
How To Get The Armor of The Undying
The Armor of the Undying is a powerful body armor said to carry a curse. When you wear it and align it with your weapon, staggering enemies will restore a small amount of your health. You’ll also notice it becomes slightly easier to pull off Perfect Parries and Perfect Dodges, giving you a wider timing window. On top of that, your Focus Attacks have a small chance to increase Stagger damage, making your strikes hit even harder.
To acquire this armor, you will be required to finish the quest “The Undying Samurai.” Start by traveling to Storyteller’s Rest in the Ishikari Plain, where you will be required to gather four Bell Chimes.
The Undying Samurai Quest Guide

Head to the northern part of Ishikari Plain, past Nakagoya Spring, to Storyteller’s Rest. Here, you’ll find the storyteller Ugetsu sitting by a small campfire. Talk to him and listen to the tale of the Undying Samurai. This will start your quest.
Collect Four Wind Chimes
Once the game starts, Ugetsu will instruct you to gather four wind chimes that are found across the grounds. You can find them by tracking the sound of ringing.

First Wind Chime: Right after the cutscene, look in front of you on a tree, and you’ll find the first wind chime hanging there.

Second Wind Chime: Head south from Storyteller’s Rest. You’ll find the second chime attached to a spear, impaling a body by a tree.

Third Wind Chime: Go slightly southwest. By a cliffside, you’ll notice a corpse hanging from a tree. Use your grappling hook to bring the corpse down, then carefully jump down to get the fallen chime.

Fourth Wind Chime: Lastly, go a little northwest towards a river and a solitary tree. A ronin protects the last chime, so kill him to claim it.
Find the Undying Samurai

With all four wind chimes in hand, make your way west of the Rumoi River. Look for a tree near a cliff this is where you’ll use your grappling hook to climb down. Facing the sea, turn right to find another ledge to descend. At the bottom, you’ll spot a large cave.
Within the cave, take the torch-lit path. Grapple through difficult spots. Go deeper into the cave, crawl through a hole, and arrive at a section of water and four brief poles. Place each of your four wind chimes on the poles in the water. Once all are in place, a strong gust of wind will trigger a cutscene, revealing the Undying Samurai.
Defeat the Undying Samurai
After the cutscene, prepare for battle. Be careful his katana is often engulfed in fire, making the fight dangerous. Once you defeat him, examine his body to collect 117 coins. A final cutscene will show you obtaining the Armor of the Undying and speaking with Ugetsu, ending the quest.
