How to Defeat Savage Beastfly in Hollow Knight Silksong

The Savage Beastfly is one of Silksong’s earliest yet most brutal optional bosses, testing both precision and aggression. Found deep within Hunter’s March at the Chapel of the Beast, this fight demands sharp reflexes, smart positioning, and adaptability across two intense phases. This guide covers how to reach the arena, prepare with shortcuts, master each attack pattern, and claim the unique Beast Crest as your reward.

Where to Find the Savage Beastfly

The Savage Beastfly can be found in the Chapel of the Beast, located at the far right of Hunter’s March. To reach this area, you first need to defeat Skarrguard in The Marrow, just above Grindle’s prison on the map’s far right. From there, make your way through Hunter’s March, navigating spike traps, tricky platforming sections, and swarms of Skarr Ants until you reach the Chapel.

If the fight feels too tough early on, don’t worry. You can mark the Chapel on your map and return later when you’ve upgraded your Needle, increased your health, and unlocked additional abilities, making the battle more manageable.

Closest Bench & Shortcut

The nearest bench in Hunter’s March is a bit tricky to find. At the top of the tall air vent room, you’ll notice a cracked sign pointing left. If you follow it, you’ll come across a bench, but it’s trapped. To use it safely, slip into the hidden room on the left and pull the lever to deactivate the trap, giving you a secure checkpoint.

From this bench, the fastest way back to the Chapel of the Beast involves heading right and dropping down through the air vent room. Then, glide into the bottom-right opening using the Drifter’s Cloak and use Swift Step to dash across the long room, avoiding the mid-room trap and a Skarr enemy along the way.

Finally, ride the air vent upward to reach the Chapel entrance. Once inside, you can also unlock a convenient shortcut by flipping a lever after clearing a wave-based enemy room.

Savage Beastfly Fight Strategies

The Savage Beastfly fight is split into two main stages. In Stage One, the boss relies on quick dashes across the arena, either close to the ground or aimed at Hornet’s height. This stage focuses on fast, direct attacks that test your timing and mobility.

Once the Beastfly has taken enough damage, Stage Two begins. It lets out a roar, summons backup enemies, and adds a powerful three-hit slam to its moveset. During this phase, managing both the boss and its summoned allies becomes key to surviving the fight. Here’s a breakdown of its main moves and how to counter them:

Ground Rush

Swooping low near the floor, the Savage Beastfly dashes all the way across the arena. A jump timed well as it swipes past can save you from the damage, and you can even kick in a hit or two during the brief moment it slides past.

Triple Crash

In this attack, the Savage Beastfly hovers in the air and then crashes down three times in rapid succession. Use Swift Step to dash to the side before every slam, and after the crashes, you have an opportunity to hit the Beastfly fast a couple of times.

Frenzied Roar

During this attack sequence, the Savage Beastfly would stop mid-air and roar to summon additional foes into the arena. You can quickly land your hits dodging the cages descending from above.

These foes include: Mawlings, small ground enemies that retaliate with spikes; Small Beastflies, swift dives and bombs at will; Vicious Caranids, an area damage flying hulk swinging its stinger.

Reward

Defeating the Savage Beastfly awards the Beast Crest, a distant Chapel relic and one of the trio of rare Crests affiliated with it. This Crest has two red Tool slots fewer than the default one but gives a different twist to Hornet’s Bind ability. Health is no longer restored from Binding; instead, Hornet enters a Rage state in which her damage output is increased and she regains HP by attacking.

The Beast Crest also alters Hornet’s moveset. Her standard needle slashes are replaced by a close-range claw swipe, and her downward aerial attack transforms into a horizontal spinning strike. Designed for aggressive, high-risk gameplay, this Crest rewards players who prefer staying up close and constantly pressuring enemies.
