How to Complete Time Paradox Trophy/Achievement in Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta

In Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta, there’s a hidden easter egg that lets you rewrite the series timeline in the most unexpected way. By taking out Ocelot early in the Virtuous Mission, you can trigger the Ocelot Time Paradox and unlock the Time Paradox Trophy. This guide walks you through exactly how to cause the paradox and claim the reward.

Understanding the Ocelot Time Paradox

Ocelot is one of the most important villains in the Metal Gear Solid series, but in Delta, you’re given the chance to cut his story short before it even begins. If you kill him during the early events of Metal Gear Solid 3, you’ll trigger what’s called the Ocelot Time Paradox, and at the same time, you’ll unlock the Time Paradox Trophy.

When and How to Trigger It

This event takes place during the Virtuous Mission at the start of the game. Once you locate Sokolov in Rassvet, a cutscene will play out where Ocelot makes his appearance. By the end of the sequence, he’s knocked out and left lying on the ground. As soon as Snake is back under your control, you can approach him and take action. To set off the paradox, select a firearm from the Weapons menu that is marked with DMG and shoot him. Be sure to save your progress before doing this, as killing Ocelot will cause an immediate game over. Also, it requires more bullets than you might expect before he finally dies. Once you’ve done it, the trophy will unlock.

Why It Creates a Paradox

The reason behind this unique outcome is that Ocelot already appears in two games that take place chronologically after Metal Gear Solid 3. Because this entry is a prequel, his death here would completely disrupt the storyline of those earlier games. To highlight that contradiction, the game presents it as the Ocelot Time Paradox.
