Sword of the Sea is not only a tranquil adventure. It culminates in a thrilling battle against the gigantic flying serpent known as Tornamun. To beat this serpent without getting hit earns you the trophy Untouchable, which is exceptionally difficult to pull off. This guide will detail all the phases of the fight and provide you tips for moving, dodging attacks, collecting fish to charge your attacks, and staying alive during the chaos of fire, rocks, and QTEs to ultimately win the battle while taking no damage.
How to Beat Tornamun
Above all things, do not forget the basics: your movement and attack charges are your life. The swirling fish that float around in several parts of the fight are not just decorations, they power your attacks. Collect them whenever you can and launch your attacks immediately when prompted (Square on PS5, E on PC). Your attacks will never miss so spamming attacks is part of the strategy!
Phase 1

The first challenge is the tower climb. At first, it’s just a nice ride—no danger, no obstacles. Take this time to get yourself familiar with movements, jumping, and double-jumping.
Once the tower begins to crumble, don’t get distracted by it. At this point, use jumps and double jumps to cross gaps in a safe manner. Next, Tornamun will start throwing huge rocks at you. Tip: Movement is Life. Keep moving in a circle and don’t stop—this is how most players get hit, they come to a standstill.
The phase’s conclusion consists of a halfpipe portion, and also some floating “fish patches”. You cannot get hurt here, so just take it as a little breather before the real battle begins.
Phase 2

Next up, you’re in the halfpipe now, made of clouds. This is where things start to get complicated.
- Walls of Fire: These will cover the entire width. You can jump or double-jump out of the pipe to avoid.
- Flaming Breath: Tornamun will shoot a straight flame from its mouth. Instead of trying to escape into open air, bounce back and forth inside the halfpipe. It’s more consistent than trying to outrun it.
- Falling Meteors: Look for ground markers indicating where meteors will land, then quickly move to safety. Don’t zig-zag randomly—the key is steady movement and timely sidesteps.
Meanwhile, keep collecting fish and launching attacks. The faster you deal damage, the quicker this phase ends.
Phase 3

The final showdown takes place inside a massive, spinning whirlpool. Here’s what you need to know:
- Fire Barricades: Short walls require a jump. Long walls have gaps—surf through them carefully.
- Flaming Breath Returns: Keep looping around the whirlpool constantly—this makes the attack easy to avoid.
- Shark Orb Volley: Another orb sequence, same rule: button mash until complete.
- Dolphin Orb Volley: You’ll use a dolphin companion to hit a giant energy orb back at the boss. Forget precise timing—just mash the button until the sequence ends.
Finally, surf to Tornamun’s head and repeatedly attack to finish the fight. Nail this entire sequence without taking damage, and the Untouchable trophy is yours. If you slip up, don’t stress—Chapter Select lets you reload Sky Abyss and try again.
Pro Tips
- Always stay on the move; pausing is a quick way to get hit.
- Collect fish constantly to keep attack charges ready.
- Observe attack patterns carefully—some are best dodged in place, others by moving.
- Don’t overthink QTE sequences—button mashing works fine.
