Looking for a fresh weapon to try in Abyssus? The Tesla Gun might not pack the heaviest punch, but its unique firing style makes it surprisingly fun and effective. With forgiving aim, steady pressure, and strong crowd control potential, it’s perfect for players who prefer reliability over raw power. This guide covers how to unlock it, its mechanics, and the best build choices to maximize performance.
Unlocking the Tesla Gun
You won’t see this weapon in your arsenal right away. To add it, you need to get through the Gardens, the second major zone in the game. After you defeat the area’s mini-boss, check beside the exit portal, you’ll find the Tesla Gun sitting there.
Once you’ve grabbed it, it gets added to your collection. However, it won’t be usable until your next expedition, where you’ll need to equip it at the workbench before heading out.
Tesla Gun Mechanics
Unlike most weapons, the Tesla Gun uses a shared ammo pool for both firing modes:
- Main Attack (Beam): Fires a continuous energy stream that steadily damages enemies.
- Alternate Attack (Projectiles): Launches shots that deal lingering damage as they pass through foes.
The Tesla Gun uses a shared ammo pool, with the beam offering 100 shots in total, while the projectile mode also has 100 but burns through 20 with every launch. The tradeoff is that the weapon doesn’t deal massive damage and feels a bit on the slower side, yet it makes up for that by being very forgiving—you don’t need pinpoint accuracy to get results, which makes it especially handy when battles get chaotic.
Recommended Fire Modes
To really make this weapon shine, stick with these upgrades:
- Charge Beam (Primary): Hits weak points harder, which is especially useful against tougher bosses. Unlock by applying 100 DoT effects with the Tesla Gun.
- Magnetic Storm (Secondary): Creates a lightning burst that spreads across the battlefield. It’s got wide coverage and reliable damage. Unlock by hitting 7 enemies simultaneously.
Charms to Look For
- Fan – Adds two extra projectiles, boosting the power of your Secondary Fire.
- Marksman – Gradually increases damage with each hit, stacking up to a maximum of 50%.
The Tesla Gun isn’t built for brute force. Instead, it excels at consistent pressure, area control, and ease of use—making it a great pick if you prefer a more forgiving playstyle.
Aspect Choices
Every run randomizes your Aspect options, but these ones pair especially well:
- Barrier (Primary Fire): Since you’re holding down the beam, shields charge rapidly.
- Blood (Secondary Fire): Extra health plus bleed damage makes your projectiles deadlier.
- Tentacles (Ability): Brine Field doesn’t do much damage, but Tentacles add offensive follow-up after casting it.
Ability Pairing
The Tesla Gun pushes you into mid-to-close range combat, so having defensive support is key. Brine Field is a standout choice since it slows down enemies while giving you breathing room, keeping fights much more manageable.
