Wuchang Blightweaver – Great Centipede Boss Fight

The fight against the Blightweaver is one of the most difficult battles you’ll face in the game. To make things easier, you’ll want to prepare properly before heading in, learn how to handle its moves, and make the most of the weapons, spells, and gear you have. With the right setup and a bit of patience, you can bring this monster down and walk away with some amazing rewards.

How to Find Blightweaver Giant Centipede Boss

From the Bandit Camp Shrine, take the path leading down to the right. Follow it all the way, and you’ll eventually reach a large arena, where you’ll face off against the Great Centipede, also known as Blightweaver.

Defeating this boss will earn you the Blightweaver Great Centipede bronze trophy or achievement. It’s a tough fight, but the rewards are worth it. When you bring the Great Centipede down, you’ll receive an Astral Blade, the Echo of the Great Centipede, a Believer’s Statue, and a Taoist Token as your spoils.

How to prepare for Blightweaver Giant Centipede Boss Fight

First, make sure your level is high enough. We went in at level 27, and while you don’t need to be exactly that, being above level 25 makes a huge difference. You’ll have stronger stats and better skills unlocked in the Impetus Repository, which helps a lot.

It’s also worth taking out the Gluttonous Monstrosity beforehand. You’ll find this optional boss at Shu Sanctum after defeating the Feathered Priest. Beating it not only raises your level but also rewards you with the Echo of Lu Honliu spell, which is very useful later.

For the fight itself, we strongly recommend using the Bone Blade Flame weapon. The Blightweaver is weak to that element. Don’t rush to use it right away, though; save it for around the halfway point of the fight to make the second phase less painful.

Since Blightweaver uses corruption-based attacks, wear armour that gives you resistance to corruption. Every bit of protection helps. And if you have a Plumed Branch, bring it along. It gives you five stacks of Skyborn Might, which is great if you’re relying on spells. Just be careful because it also increases Madness, so time it for the second phase.

Before starting the fight, make sure your Manna Vases are full. You can do this by visiting the Shrine at the bottom of Shu Sanctum and entering a Dream to reset everything. The more healing you can bring, the better. Also, equip the Dracolich Pendant; it stops beast roars from making you flinch and slightly reduces incoming damage, which is a big help against Blightweaver.

As for spells, Echo of Lu Bingzhang hits hard but costs a lot of Skyborn Might, so use it wisely. Echo of Dhutanga is slower but powerful; if you manage to hit Blightweaver from behind, you can even open it up for an Obliterate. Vorpal Blade is another good option for extra damage.

Finally, stock up on healing items like Bunny Bao Buns and Raven Pills to supplement your Manna Vases. And don’t forget about Madness if you’re having trouble with damage output; maxing out your Madness gives you a strong attack boost. But be careful, because it also makes you take more damage. If you feel you’re taking too many hits, you can reduce your Madness by offering Divine Gifts or Divine Gift Shards to the God of Shu on the middle floor of Shu Sanctum.

How to Beat Blightweaver Giant Centipede Boss

One great way to tear through the Blightweaver’s health bar is by inflicting Poise Break. If you’ve unlocked and equipped the Bone Needle – Poise Break node in the Impetus Repository, you can actually infuse your weapon with Poise Break using Temperance. Once that’s set up, every hit you land will build up Poise Break, and when it triggers, the damage you can deal is huge.

Another trick is using the Vermillion War Club’s Misty Breath skill. When you use it, the weapon releases a cloud of yellow dust that quickly builds up Poise Break. It does cost one Skyborn Might each time you use it, but if you combine Misty Breath with the Poise Break Temperance, the buildup happens even faster, and you’ll stagger Blightweaver in no time. Just keep in mind, though, that the Vermillion War Club was a preorder-exclusive weapon; if you didn’t preorder the game, you won’t have access to it.

And here’s a tip for another boss, the Great Centipede: when it starts its big attacks, look around for the electrified stone structures with paper talismans on them. If you hide behind one, the Centipede will strike the structure instead. That impact temporarily stuns it, giving you a perfect chance to go in and deal some extra damage.

Giant Centipede Boss Moveset

When Blightweaver is at full health, you’ll notice a set of very distinct attack patterns you need to learn if you want to survive.

One of the most common is when it slams its pincers into the ground over and over while slowly moving toward you, and then suddenly brings both pincers down at once. Don’t try to roll behind it; it can track your movement and still land the hit. Instead, time your dodges by moving toward its sides before each strike, and be ready to dodge again for that final double slam.

Sometimes it’ll lift part of its body and stomp the ground with a heavy thud. When you see this, sprint toward the opposite side of its body. That gives you a safe window to get in a few solid hits before it recovers.

Blightweaver also has a nasty tail swipe where it whips its tail around and then immediately turns to face you. The best way to deal with this is to dodge forward just before the tail hits. This lets you avoid the damage and puts you right in front of it, ready to strike.

Another move you’ll see is its roar, which normally makes you flinch and leaves you open to follow‑up attacks. If you’re wearing the Dracolich Pendant, though, the roar won’t interrupt you, and you can keep hitting it. Otherwise, you can stay at a distance and use spells or throwables to chip away safely during this moment.

At times, it will fill the area with dark, corruption‑tinged smoke and vanish into it. The only clue to its position is the faint glow of its pincers cutting through the haze. Watch carefully, and when you see it coming, dodge to the side or backwards, don’t roll forward, because stepping into the smoke will infect you with corruption.

There’s also a sweeping attack where it swings both pincers from the sides and brings them together in front. You can either roll back to create space and reset, or time a forward dodge to slip between them and counterattack.

Watch out for its spinning tail move, too. It coats its tail in corruption and then lunges into a spinning strike. Don’t retreat backwards during this one, you’re more likely to get clipped, dodge to the sides or forward instead.

And then there’s the leap. Blightweaver will jump high into the air and crash down, damaging anyone nearby. The safest move is to roll forward right before it lands so you end up behind it, ready to punish.

Once you’ve whittled its health down to about half, it adds a couple of new tricks. It’ll sometimes summon a glowing magic circle that blasts out lasers in quick succession. You’ll need to watch carefully each time the laser lights up, time a dodge, and don’t forget Blightweaver can still chain other attacks while this is happening.

It also starts burrowing underground and hunting you from below. You’ll see the ground glow faintly before it erupts upward, and it’ll do this four times in a row. You can’t hurt it while it’s underground, but if you’re patient and dodge a split second after the glow appears, you can stay safe. On the fourth strike, its head pops out long enough for you to land some hits before it dives back in.

Learning these patterns and responding calmly to each one is key to taking down the Blightweaver without getting overwhelmed. Stay focused, and you’ll find openings to deal damage even in the middle of all that chaos.
