How to Increase Base Storage and Get Advanced Research in The Alters

In The Alters, expanding your base and unlocking advanced research is key to surviving on the planet. As the challenges grow tougher, you’ll need more space, better equipment, and smarter upgrades to keep things running smoothly. This guide will show you exactly how to increase your base storage and unlock higher-level research, step by step so you can stay ahead of the game and build a stronger, more efficient base.

How To Increase Base Storage In The Alters

If you want to make your base bigger in The Alters, the first thing you need to do is upgrade your Quantum Computer’s Qubit Level. Start by unlocking Qubit Level 2, which opens up new research options. Once that’s done, open the Research tab, go to the Base section, and start researching Base Expansion II. This research takes 14 hours to complete, but if you want to speed things up, you can assign your Scientist to Crunch Hours, which lets them work 12-hour shifts and finish faster.

After the research is complete, head to the Command Centre. This is where you manage your base layout. You’ll now have the option to expand your base. Just make sure you have 40 Minerals and 60 Metals on hand, because that’s the cost for the expansion. Once built, the upgrade gives you much more room for adding modules and also increases your Organics tank capacity to 450, which is super helpful for long-term survival.

How To Get Advanced Research In The Alters

Research in The Alters is divided into four levels, each unlocking more advanced tech to help you survive tougher situations. But to move up to the next level, you’ll need to upgrade your base’s Qubit Level. To increase your Qubit Level, explore the map and look for a Damaged Chip. Once you find one, bring it back to your base, repair it at the Workstation, and then insert it into the Quantum Computer. Each chip you install raises the Qubit Level by one, which in turn unlocks the next tier of research.

Your Scientist can only research up to the current Qubit Level. If they’ve got nothing left to study, that means it’s time to go find another chip. As you reach higher tiers, some research projects will also require Planet Samples. You can collect these by exploring Anomalies on the map using the Luminator.

Unlocking new research levels not only gives you access to better gear, tools, and upgrades it also lets you research Base Expansion upgrades, giving you more space and a larger Organics tank, which is crucial for long-term survival.
